Job Description

Johnston County Department of Social Services has an immediate opening for an Income Maintenance Investigator II. The Income Maintenance Investigator II is responsible for working independently in investigation fraud or alleged fraud cases in the income maintenance programs of Johnston County Department of Social Services. This position reports to the Program Integrity Supervisor and Economic Services Program Manager. The primary purpose of the Income Maintenance Investigator II is to Investigate referrals involving suspected fraud, misrepresentation, or program abuse. This position must have thorough knowledge of the NC FAST system, policy knowledge of income maintenance programs. The position involves reviewing applications, case records, wage data, and verification documents to determine eligibility accuracy. This position conduct interviews with clients, employers, landlords, and other third parties. Gather and evaluate evidence to support administrative or legal actions. Calculate overpayments and prepare repayment or claims documentation. Maintain detailed case notes, investigative reports, and supporting documentation. Work closely with caseworkers, supervisors, law enforcement, and the District Attorney's office when appropriate. Interpret and apply federal, state, and county policies related to public assistance programs. Testify in administrative hearings or court proceedings if needed. Other duties may be assigned such as Shelter or Emergency Management duties during a disaster. Thorough knowledge of Income Maintenance Programs. Thorough knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, policies and eligibility systems. Considerable knowledge of the agency's organizational rules and policies. Strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to recognize, collect, and evaluate evidence to support actions. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, community agencies, law enforcement agencies to obtain or present pertinent data Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, and the general public. Ability to prepare professional written reports and documentation. Ability to present information orally or in written form. Two years of experience as a caseworker or investigator in an income maintenance program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Bilingual is desired but not required.
