Job Description

Job Summary NuWeld, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Director of QA/QC - Welding & ASME Code Compliance to lead and maintain the company's quality assurance and quality control programs across shop and field operations. This role is critical to supporting NuWeld's continued growth in ASME pressure vessel fabrication, process piping, structural fabrication, and industrial projects. Unlike a large corporate quality department, this is a working leadership role that requires daily involvement on the shop floor, direct collaboration with operations leadership and foremen, and active participation in welding qualification, inspection, documentation, and customer compliance activities. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and technical resource capable of bridging the gap between engineering requirements, code compliance, shop production, and field execution. This individual will work closely with the VP of Shop & Field Operations, shop foremen, welders, project managers, and customers to ensure all fabrication activities meet applicable code, customer, and company standards. Pay will be based on experience Quality Assurance & Code Compliance Maintain and oversee the company Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ASME and customer requirements. Ensure that all prefabrication processes and products meet the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance.. Support and maintain ASME Code Stamp programs and associated documentation. Review customer specifications, drawings, weld maps, ITPs, and fabrication requirements prior to production. Coordinate and host Authorized Inspectors (AI), customer inspectors, auditors, and third-party agencies. Lead corrective action and continuous improvement efforts related to quality concerns or non-conformances. Welding Program Oversight Develop, maintain, and manage Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ). Conduct and oversee welder qualification testing and continuity tracking. Evaluate welding processes, techniques, consumables, and production methods to ensure code compliance and efficiency. Serve as the company technical resource for welding-related questions and troubleshooting. Work directly with shop foremen to resolve fabrication and weld quality concerns in real time. Inspection & NDE Coordination Perform visual weld inspections and dimensional inspections throughout fabrication. Coordinate Non-Destructive Examination (NDE/NDT) activities including RT, UT, MT, PT, and VT. Review and verify inspection reports, material traceability, heat numbers, and turnover documentation packages. Ensure calibration and compliance of inspection equipment and measuring tools. Verify all required quality documentation is complete and accurate prior to shipment or turnover. Collaboration & Operations Support Work closely with the VP of Shop & Field Operations to support production scheduling, fabrication quality, and customer expectations. Collaborate daily with shop foremen and field crews to ensure quality standards are practical, achievable, and consistently maintained. Provide guidance and mentorship to welders regarding procedures, techniques, and code requirements. Participate in project kickoff meetings, customer reviews, and operational planning discussions. Support estimating and project management teams with quality and code-related input during bidding and project execution.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of: ASME Section
VIII & IX ASME B31.1/B31.3 AWS D1.1
Welding processes including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW Experience conducting welder qualification testing and managing welding documentation. Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, isometrics, weld symbols, specifications, and code requirements. Experience interacting with Authorized Inspectors, auditors, and customers. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Ability to work independently in a small-company environment with minimal oversight. Strong communication and collaboration skills with both management and craft personnel. Preferred Previous experience in an ASME code shop environment. Familiarity with natural gas, energy, power generation, or industrial fabrication projects. Experience with pressure vessels, skids, process piping, and structural fabrication.
Physical Requirements:
• Regular exposure to welding operations, heavy equipment, and industrial construction conditions. • Must be able to walk the shop floor, climb ladders when needed, and work in active industrial environments.
Education and Experience:
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required or willing to obtain Minimum 5-7 years of progressive QA/QC experience in heavy fabrication, pressure vessels, piping, industrial construction, or related industries.
