Director of Monitoring & Evaluation Status:
Exempt, Full Time Reports to: President/CEOTHE POSITION
The Director of Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) provides strategic leadership for the organization's evaluation and performance measurement efforts. This role is responsible for designing and implementing organization-wide systems that assess program effectiveness, measure outcomes, and support date-informed decision making. This position serves as both a strategic leader and hands-on partner to program teams, ensuring that evaluation frameworks are meaningful, practical, and aligned with funding requirements. The Director plays a critical role in strengthening organizational learning, accountability, and impact. The Director of Evaluation collaborates with the Fund Development and Communications team to provide timely, relevant, and data-driven insights that support fundraising initiatives and communication strategies. By synthesizing evaluation findings into clear and compelling narratives, this role helps articulate organizational impact, strengthen donor relations, and guide strategic outreach efforts.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Systems Design Design, develop, and implement organization-wide M&E strategies, systems, and tools. Lead the development of performance indicators, data collection methodologies, and reporting processes aligned with strategic objectives. Ensure evaluation systems are accessible, culturally responsive, and practical for implementation across programs. Continuously assess and refine systems to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Data, Reporting & Compliance Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting across all programs. Ensure compliance with internal policies, grant, contract, and funder reporting requirements. Lead the preparation and presentation of evaluation reports for senior leadership, funders, and stakeholders. Maintain and oversee data systems, dashboards, and reporting tools to ensure data integrity and usability. Program Partnership & Capacity Building Oversee the regular monitoring of program activities to assess quality, effectiveness, and impact. Provide training and technical assistance to staff and partners on evaluation tools, data collection, and best practices. Translate data into actionable insights to support program improvement and organizational learning. Advancement Collaboration & External Communication Strategy Collaborate with the Advancement team to deliver timely, relevant, and data-driven insights that inform fundraising initiatives and communication strategies. Synthesize evaluation findings into clear, compelling narratives that effectively communicate organizational impact. Support the strengthening of donor relations through evidence-based storytelling and impact reporting. Contribute to the development of strategic outreach efforts by translating evaluation data into actionable insights. Organizational Alignment & Impact Lead and develop the evaluation team, including recruiting, mentoring, and performance management. Foster a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and improvement through robust knowledge of management practices. Encourage and contribute to data-informed decision-making across the organization.QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
At least 7-10 years of experience in M&E, data analytics, or a related field. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing evaluation frameworks and performance measurement systems. Experience managing complex reporting requirements tied to grants and contracts. Experience leading or mentoring staff or cross-functional teams.Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field.Skills & Knowledge:
Strong analytical and data interpretation skills. Experience with data systems, reporting tools, and dashboards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to senior leadership. Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights. Strong project management and organizational skills. Thorough knowledge of general office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.Preferred:
Communicate and work effectively with individuals and families from diverse social, educational and cultural backgrounds. Analyze situations under pressure and carry out appropriate and effective action based on established procedures. Work independently, set priorities, develop goals and objectives and know when to seek guidance. Speak to large groups, including businesses, public service organizations, family service nonprofit organizations, and groups of volunteers and donors. Experience in nonprofit, youth services, or community-based programs.OTHER REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, talk, hear, reach above and below shoulders; use hand and finger dexterity, keyboarding and making and receiving telephone calls. The employee may be required on occasion to lift and or carry up to 25 lbs. The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.LOCATION AND HOURS
Our typical business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. This position requires flexibility to meet organizational needs. Availability outside of standard hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to support operations, events, or urgent matters. This position is based in our Sacramento offices with an expectation of regular in-person presence to support our team, operations, and program development. Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be approved on an individual basis, aligned with organizational needs and leadership approval.
