Medical Compliance Specialist (DOT/OSHA) WSSC Water - 3.6 Laurel, MD Job Details Full-time $96,038 - $163,523 a year 5 days ago Benefits Health insurance Employee assistance program Qualifications Occupational health expertise Achieving HIPAA compliance Maintaining patient confidentiality Regulatory compliance HIPAA Policy & process development Full Job Description The Medical Compliance Specialist develops, implements, and oversees medical compliance programs to ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local laws, as well as WSSC Water regulations, policies, and procedures. This includes responsibilities related to the Drug-Free Workplace program, Occupational Health and Safety standards, and
DOT/FMCSA
Commercial Driver's License requirements. Essential Functions Develops, manages, coordinates and is responsible for the WSSC Water medical surveillance programs and initiates programmatic changes to minimize employee health risk, i.e., respiratory protection, hearing conservation Develops and assists in managing WSSC Water health related contracts, i.e., substance abuse testing, medical surveillance; DOT/CDL testing requirements Evaluates WSSC Water-wide first-aid facilities for proper equipment and to ensure proper training of staff Consults with the health care providers on various projects such as establishing vaccine programs, medical surveillance, substance abuse, etc. and implements WSSC Water-wide approved programs Provides guidance to employees in response to their questions and concerns regarding the WSSC Water occupational health programs Coordinates various health related training/wellness programs such as diabetes, hypertension, stress reduction program, blood born pathogen, etc Coordinates physical examinations of licensed WSSC Water drivers and recommends appropriate action based on the employee's health condition Coordinates test results from substance abuse tests (CDL driver substance abuse testing and Fitness for Duty) with the EAP counselor Coordinates DOT random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug and/or alcohol testing with supervisors to ensure that the process is done according to policy, and meets with the supervisor and HR to discuss recommendations when the outcomes of the test are positive Develops and teaches required substance abuse classes for both CDL drivers and supervisors as required by the DOT federal regulations Manages tasks that support the occupational health and safety program by interacting with the medical director, preparing correspondence to employees; developing and implementing physical standards as prescribed by the medical director; ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations Manage WSSC Water's automated external defibrillator program (AED) Other Functions Confers and consults with Safety Specialists, Occupational Safety & Health Section Managers, Chief of Health & Safety, Human Resources, General Counsel's office, and Division Managers to provide recommendations and solutions to health-related issues Acts as WSSC Water's representative at administrative hearings for termination in conjunction with legal and/or human resources office primarily when the reason for termination involves repeat substance abuse In accordance with federal law, serves as custodian of the WSSC Water's confidential medical records Performs other related duties as assigned Work Environment And Physical Demands Business casual office environment Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Comprehensive understanding of current occupational health principles and practices as required by federal and state laws and regulations such as OSHA, CDC, NIOSH, DOT, MOSH, etc. as well as WSSC Water-wide policies, procedures and practices Comprehensive understanding and awareness of Safety and Occupational Health programs in a labor-intensive industrial environment Comprehensive understanding of current Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) requirements Understanding of accident prevention environmental tests and methodologies of occupational health practices Ability to manage WSSC Water-wide programs, design, develop, formulate, recommend, and implement WSSC Water-wide health and safety policies and procedures Minimum Education, Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree 5+ years experience in the safety and health field in the industrial environment OR High School diploma or equivalent 9+ years experience in the safety and health field in the industrial environment
