Governor Salary:
$70,000 Summary The Tribal Tax Administrator is Responsible for the development, implementation, administration, and enforcement of the Tribe's tax codes, policies, and revenue systems in accordance with Tribal Sovereignty, applicable laws. And regulatory frameworks. This role ensures accurate tax collection, compliance, reporting, and taxpayer education while supporting economic development and financial sustainability for the Tribe.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Tax Administration and Compliance o Administer and enforce Tribal tax ordinances, regulations, and policies. o Oversee tax regulation, filing, payment processing, audits, and collections. o Maintain accurate taxpayer records, databases, and financial documentation. o Monitor compliance with Tribal tax codes, including businesses, sales, excise, occupancy, fuel, or other applicable taxes. o Coordinate compliance activities with other Tribal departments such as finance, licensing, legal, and economic development. Policy Development and Implementation o Assist in drafting, updating, and interoperating Tribal tax codes, regulations, and procedures. o Recommend policy improvements to strengthen revenue systems and compliance. o Provide technical guidance to leadership on tax policy impacts and revenue projections. Revenue Management and Reporting o Track and analyze tax revenues, trends, and projections. o Prepare financial statistical reports for Tribal Council, leadership, and finance departments. o Support annual budgeting processes by providing revenue forecasts. o Ensure internal controls and accountability for tax funds. Audit and Enforcement o Conduct or coordinate tax audits, investigations, and compliance reviews. o Issue notices, penalties, and enforcement actions when necessary. o Work with legal counsel on disputes, appeals, or enforcement proceedings. Taxpayer Services and Education o Provide education and outreach to Tribal businesses, enterprises, and taxpayers regarding obligations and procedures. o Respond to taxpayer inquiries, complaints, and requests for clarification. o Develop forms, guidance documents, and training materials. Intergovernmental Coordination o Coordinate tax matters involving federal, state, or local jurisdictions when applicable. o Support agreements, compacts, or revenue-sharing arrangements as directed by leadership. o Ensure protection of Tribal Sovereignty in tax administration practices. Systems and Process Management o Implement and manage tax administration software or tracking systems. o Establish efficient workflows for billing, payment processing, and reporting. o Maintain confidentiality and data security standards.
Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field. (Master's Preferred) o 3-5 years of experience in tax administration, governmental finance, accounting, or revenue management. o Knowledge of Governmental or Tribal financial systems and compliance practices. o Experience interpreting policies, laws, or regulations. o Ability to pass a mandatory background check and drug test. o Must have a valid New Mexico driver's license and be insurable through the Pueblo of Nambe.
Preferred Qualifications:
o Experience working with Tribal Governments or Native American Communities. o Knowledge of Tribal Sovereignty and Tribal taxation authority. o Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO), or similar credential. o Experience with tax software systems or enterprise financial systems.

Working Conditions:
o Office-based environment with periodic meetings, field visits, or community engagement. o May involve confidential financial information and strict compliance requirements.
Additional Duties:
o Perform other duties as assigned to support financial stability and governance priorities.
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
