If we have transparency in our business practices, with our team members and the community we build trust in our truth.' Detailed Job Duties List for Experienced, Hands-On Cannabis Production Compliance Officer Regulatory Monitoring, Policy Development & Interpretation
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert on all Nevada CCB regulations (NRS 678B, NAC 678D, NCCR), federal guidelines (where applicable), and local requirements for cannabis production, cultivation, manufacturing, processing, packaging, labeling, testing, storage, transportation, and disposal.
- Continuously monitor, interpret, and analyze changes in state laws, CCB guidance, and industry standards; proactively update internal policies, SOPs, and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance and anticipate regulatory shifts.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and enforce comprehensive compliance programs, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) tailored to production facility operations (cultivation, extraction, infusion, edibles, etc.).
- Review and approve new packaging, labeling, marketing, and advertising materials for full regulatory compliance before use or distribution.
- Lead or support regulatory submissions, license renewals, applications, and reporting to the CCB and other agencies. Auditing, Inspections & Risk Assessment (Hands-On Core Duties)
- Conduct frequent, thorough
- internal audits
- of all facility operations, including inventory, security, sanitation, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs, chain of custody, waste disposal, and recordkeeping.
- Perform hands-on reviews of processing, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution activities to verify adherence to regulations and SOPs.
- Lead preparation for and directly support/participate in external CCB inspections, audits, and investigations; develop and execute corrective action plans for any findings or violations.
- Identify compliance risks and gaps through ongoing risk assessments; implement mitigation strategies and preventive controls to minimize exposure to fines, license suspension/revocation, or operational disruptions.
- Investigate compliance incidents, complaints, discrepancies, or potential violations promptly and thoroughly; document root causes and coordinate resolution with cross-functional teams. Inventory, Seed-to-Sale Tracking & Recordkeeping (METRC Expertise)
- Master and oversee the METRC (or state-approved) seed-to-sale tracking system: audit records daily/regularly, ensure accurate real-time entry for all plant/product movements, creations, testing, packaging, transfers, sales, and waste.
- Monitor and reconcile inventory levels across production, and storage areas; investigate and resolve any discrepancies, losses, or anomalies immediately.
- Collect, audit, organize, and maintain all required records and documentation from lab/testing, manufacturing, and other departments to support compliance with state laws and internal policies.
- Oversee manufacturing, testing, packaging, shipment manifests, and waste destruction processes for full traceability and compliance.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, security, and disposal of cannabis and cannabis products, including temperature controls, sanitation, and contamination prevention. Training, Culture & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Design and deliver ongoing compliance training programs for all staff (agents, managers, production teams) on regulations, SOPs, security, hygiene, QA/QC, and ethical standards; verify understanding and adherence.
- Foster a strong culture of compliance and accountability across production, operations, quality, security, and leadership teams.
- Partner closely with operations, production, QA, legal, security, and executive teams to integrate compliance into daily workflows and product lifecycles without hindering efficiency.
- Serve as the key liaison with CCB, regulatory agencies, and auditors; facilitate clear communication, timely responses, and positive relationships. Reporting, Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare detailed compliance reports, risk assessments, audit findings, and investigative summaries for senior management, the CCB, and other stakeholders.
- Analyze data from audits, METRC, inventory, and operations to identify trends, issues, or improvement opportunities; drive data-informed enhancements to processes and controls.
- Review facility policies, procedures, and QA/QC programs regularly; recommend and implement updates for efficiency and stronger compliance.
- Track and report on key compliance metrics (e.g., audit pass rates, violation history, training completion) to support license maintenance and operational excellence. Additional Hands-On / Leadership Responsibilities
- Oversee or directly manage compliance-related projects, including facility modifications for regulatory adherence (e.g., security, sanitation, controlled access).
- Lead background checks, agent card compliance, and personnel-related regulatory requirements.
- Support financial/operational reviews tied to licensing or audits as needed.
- Stay physically present and engaged in the production facility environment for real-time oversight, issue resolution, and on-the-floor auditing.
- Mentor junior compliance or QA staff; potentially supervise compliance team members in larger operations.
