Position Summary The Compliance Specialist provides confidential, technical, and professional level support to the CT State organizational compliance framework in achieving compliance efficiencies in alignment with legal standards and internal policies, assists with identifying and addressing institutional risks, and establishing the highest ethical standards of conduct in accordance with the state's Code of Ethics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Under the direction of the CT State Data Privacy and Compliance Manager, the Compliance Specialist is responsible for effective performance in these essential duties: Key responsibilities include: Monitors and ensures compliance with state regulatory requirements and CSCU policies. Conducts detailed compliance audits and assessments to identify potential compliance risks. Develops and implements compliance policies and procedures. Provides training and support to employees on compliance-related matters. Investigates complex compliance issues and complaints in light of state statutes and regulations and makes recommendations to the Compliance Officer. Assists the Compliance Officer in developing and implementing an effective CT Statewide Compliance Plan that will identify and address the college's federal, state and local compliance reporting obligations in the areas of Academic & Student Affairs, Accessibility, statutory requirements, administration and records retention, student financial aid, and Institutional Advancement. Assists the Compliance Officer with Freedom of Information requests for CT State and collaborates with System Office Legal Affairs on responses. Assists the Compliance Officer in records management as the Records Management Liaison Officer. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field with three (3) or more years of experience providing compliance or investigatory administrative support or conducting compliance audits; OR Completion of a Paralegal or Legal Assistance Certificate Program approved by the American Bar Association and three (3) years of experience providing paraprofessional legal assistance.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and compliance management software. Experience in developing, drafting and implementing policies and procedures. Demonstrated active listening skills, problem sensing and solving skills, and customer service orientation. Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality. Ability to create effective training materials. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) Preferred Qualifications Proven experience in a compliance role. Experience working in higher education.
