This opportunity introduces students to the research ecosystem , including grant proposal development, regulatory frameworks, and administrative processes that support sponsored research. Interns will work alongside the Collaborative Grant Services (CGS) team to gain practical exposure to grant administration , policy interpretation, and compliance considerations-all critical components of research integrity and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
Interns will assist with tasks scaled for learning and professional development, such as:
Proposal Support:
Assist with gathering and organizing documents for grant proposals. Review sponsor guidelines and help identify compliance requirements. Budget Preparation (Introductory Level): Support basic budget entry and justification under supervision.
Policy & Compliance Exposure:
Learn about federal and university research policies (e.g., IRB/IACUC basics). Participate in discussions on cost principles and compliance frameworks.
Training & Team Engagement:
Attend CGS team meetings and professional development sessions. Contribute to mini-projects mapping research administration processes.
Capstone Project:
Complete a project analyzing a component of UK's research ecosystem (aligned with Honors College course objectives).
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, students will be able to: Explain the grant lifecycle and key compliance checkpoints. Demonstrate basic skills in proposal preparation and budget review . Understand the role of research administration in advancing UK's strategic priorities. Communicate the impact of compliance on research integrity and innovation.
Qualifications:
Current Honors College student (undergraduate). Interest in research, policy, or administrative processes. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Duration & Structure:
Semester-based internship (Fall/Spring). 10-15 hours per week , flexible scheduling.
