Spring, TX 77389 (Onsite) Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They're expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Overview The Customs Classification Specialist is responsible for accurately assigning and maintaining global tariff codes (HS/HTS/HTSUS) and export control codes (Schedule B, ECCN) across the company's product catalog. This role ensures compliant classification for all import/export declarations, minimizing duty risks and clearance delays. The position requires strong technical classification expertise, audit-ready documentation practices, and cross-functional collaboration to support trade compliance, product launches, and operational efficiency. Responsibilities Product Classification Assign HS/HTS/HTSUS, Schedule B, ECCN, and other tariff codes using WCO General Rules of Interpretation, legal notes, and rulings. Classify complex items such as assemblies, kits, spare parts, and refurbished goods based on materials, function, and essential character. Maintain classification logic, decision trees, and documented rationales with supporting references. Data Governance & Documentation Maintain a controlled repository of classifications linked to SKUs, BOMs, and lifecycle updates. Ensure version control, documentation of data sources, and attachment of technical specifications and drawings. Stakeholder Collaboration Work with Engineering, Product Management, Procurement, and Logistics to gather required product information (composition, performance, specs). Broker Oversight & Trade Operations Collaborate with customs brokers and support import/export filings. Assist with valuation, country of origin determination, and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) eligibility analysis (e.g., USMCA, CPTPP). Controls, Audit & Risk Management Conduct internal audits, resolve discrepancies, and support external or government audits. Monitor regulatory updates and implement tariff or compliance changes into systems and master data. Systems & Automation Manage and integrate classification data within systems such as SAP/GTS and trade compliance tools. Leverage automation and AI-driven classification tools where applicable. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). 3-5+ years of hands-on customs classification experience in import/export environments. Strong knowledge of
HS/HTSUS, WCO
GRIs, section and chapter notes, explanatory notes; familiarity with Schedule B and ECCN (EAR). Experience working with customs brokers and trade compliance systems. Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret technical specifications and BOMs. Excellent written communication and documentation skills for audit readiness. Preferred Qualifications Experience classifying machinery or equipment, ideally within the Oil & Gas industry. Exposure to multi-jurisdictional classification (e.g., EU, Canada, Mexico, APAC countries).
