Full Job Description Position Description:
Summary:
The Compliance Strategist is responsible for maintaining the company's standing with state and federal regulatory bodies. You will manage state reporting, document regulatory changes, assist with initial policy and procedure drafts, monitor and implement privacy changes, coordinate examinations and audits, and support the CCO and Compliance Department in this evolving role. This role acts as a critical liaison between internal departments and external regulatory agencies to ensure seamless operational compliance.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities Quarterly and Annual State Reporting:
File accurate applicable reports with state regulatory bodies including the NMLS and/or Secretary of State reports under the oversight of the Compliance Manager. File annual reports (e.g., WA Consumer Assessment, CA
DFPI, CA
CRMLA, etc.). Coordinate and submit monthly and quarterly state-specific reports (NV, NC). Update and track HMDA data and maintain SOS/Mortgage Agency tracking sheets.
Regulatory Change Management:
Monitor regulatory updates and request an initial analysis from the CCO for implementation. Document regulatory changes, impact, validation, and confirm implementation.
Policies and Procedures:
Draft preliminary policies and procedures and provide them to the CCO. Maintain and update all organizational policies and procedures in the Comergence platform.
Privacy:
Expertise with GLBA and Reg P, including all related requirements. Monitoring of Privacy Notices and Website Privacy Policies to ensure organizational changes related to information sharing are implemented. Collaborate with the CTO and CCO regarding privacy initiatives or corrective actions.
Audits & Exams Coordination:
Take a lead role in the preparation and delivery of requested items for state exams. Strict adherence to examination/audit deadlines and regulator requests. Work in close collaboration with the CCO and Compliance Manager for strong support and guidance. Coordinate meetings for kick-off, collaboration, preliminary reviews, and final reviews.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Industry Knowledge:
Previous experience with state examinations, third-party audits, Federal and state regulations, eRegulations, reading and understanding regulations, implementing regulations to ensure compliance within the organization, loan origination system knowledge and pulling reports from the system.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a mortgage regulatory compliance role with an emphasis on state specific requirements.
Technical Proficiency:
Ability to navigate the NMLS, loan origination system(s), and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Detail Orientation:
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to identify and escalate incongruent information.
Communication:
Strong coordination and collaboration skills. You will collaborate with the compliance team, executive leadership, and other business units to ensure alignment.
