E DEFINITION
Working in the department of Assessment, Research, and Accountability, under the direction of the Senior Coordinator of Virginia State Mandated Assessments Program, the Assessment Coordinator will assist with maintaining the state mandated assessment program. This person must possess considerable knowledge of state mandated assessment guidelines and protocols including SOL online assessments, to include working knowledge of state mandated SOL Security Guidelines and Procedures, Guidelines for Participation of Students with Disabilities in theAssessment Component of Virginia's Accountability Program and Limited English Proficient Students:
Guidelines for Participation in the Standards of Learning Assessments. The Assessment Coordinator will also be expected to be able to interpret a variety of data to ascertain student achievement and reports scores to schools and administration. This position is also designed to provide professional development and technical assistance to school test coordinators, building administrators, subject area coordinators, and other school personnel in the proper interpretation of state level results and reports. The Assessment Coordinator will need to work collaboratively with members of other departments in order to ensure SOL assessment compliance and assist with data analysis.SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator of State Mandated Assessment Programs.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS
(May not include all duties performed.) Assists with coordination of the administration of the state mandated assessments. Assists school test coordinators, administrators, and central administration personnel to prepare for SOL testing and other state-mandated assessments at the school-level. Assists with oversight of SOL online testing including system checks, session development, and preparations for student participation at the school level. Trains end-users on new and existing testing applications; develops and conducts professional development and training opportunities as well as work sessions. Assists with planning and conducting monthly School Test Coordinator's meetings. Uses a wide variety of computer technology, hardware and software applications, including the preparation of analytical reports, and use of statistical analysis packaged and presentation software. Assists with managing the appeal process for SOL Writing assessments. Stays current with state and federal regulations related to state-mandated assessments as well as with research in educational testing. Extracts information from numerous sources of data with regard to research and evaluation and maintain an accountability library of reports. Upon assignment, supervises work of technical staff assigned to project(s). Assists in submitting testing irregularities online; analyzes test irregularities to determine areas of need to prevent avoidable test irregularities. Assists with ordering state level assessments for the school division. Attends professional development opportunities related to state mandated testing provided by the VDOE. Responsible for meeting deadlines, commitments, and managing time effectively. Access forELLs:
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of state-mandated policy, procedures, and regulations related to LEP students. Collaborates with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to account for Access for ELLs testing for all Limited English Proficient (LEP) students. Assists with the ordering, security, and distribution of the Access for ELLs assessment. Assists with the training of Access for ELLs Examiners. Performs analysis of LEP student-related data to help support other departments.Alternate and Local Alternative Assessments:
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of state mandated policy, procedures, and regulations related to Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) and Local Alternative Assessments (LAA). Collaborates with the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and the Department of Learning Support-Special Education for training and procedural safeguards for all VAAP and LAA assessments. Performs analysis of student-related data to help support other departments.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of technology to generally include, but is not limited to the use of Internet, MSWORD, MS
Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Office Outlook, Synergy, Mastery Connect, and other related applications. Ability to quickly analyze and solve user testing related problems. Ability to utilize a wide variety of computer technology, hardware and software applications, including the preparation of analytical reports, and use of statistical analysis packages (i.e.SAS, SPSS, MS
Excel) and presentation software (i.e. MS PowerPoint). Ability to communicate, both in writing and orally, technical information in a manner that is understandable to a variety of levels and audiences. Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team. Analytical and problem-solving skills; has the ability to think forwardly and strategically. Excellent oral, written, customer service and human relations skills. High degree of professionalism which includes positive attitude, good work ethics, taking responsibility, providing good customer service and support, intra-organizational effectiveness, meeting deadlines, flexibility, multi-tasking, and attention to detail. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree required from an accredited college or university in education, business, and information systems, computer science or related area. Has a minimum of three years of successful classroom experience and experience as a school test coordinator preferred. Has extensive knowledge of the logistics of state-mandated assessment rules, policies, and guidelines, and an extensive skills-set of a school test coordinator, preferred.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in administration and supervision K-12 preferred.PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES
Primarily office-based with occasional travel to schools and external meetings. Extended hours may be required during testing windows and deadlines. Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. HAZARDS Work involves exposure to normal, everyday risks in an office environment.UNUSUAL DEMANDS
