About Herring Bank Herring Bank is a local bank in Amarillo, Texas, with a legacy of relationship-driven banking. We serve businesses and individuals across the Texas Panhandle and beyond, combining the personal attention of a community bank with the capabilities of a modern financial institution. The Role We're looking for a Credit Officer to join our commercial lending team. You'll evaluate credit risk, structure commercial loans, and work directly with lenders and borrowers to get deals done. This isn't a back-office role — you'll be involved from underwriting through close and have a voice in the credit decisions that shape our portfolio. What You'll Do Analyze financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow projections for commercial borrowers Prepare credit presentations and loan memoranda with clear risk assessments and recommendations Evaluate collateral, guarantor strength, and industry conditions Ensure compliance with bank lending policies, regulatory guidelines, and documentation standards Monitor existing credits, track covenant compliance, and identify early warning signs in the portfolio Participate in loan committee discussions and defend credit recommendations Collaborate with commercial lenders on deal structuring to balance risk and relationship What We're Looking For 3-7 years of commercial credit analysis or underwriting experience at a bank, credit union, or farm credit institution Strong financial statement analysis skills Experience with commercial real estate, C&I, and/or agricultural credits Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (OCC, FDIC, or state banking guidelines) Degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field Solid written communication skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple credits simultaneously Nice to Have Experience with SBA lending (7(a), 504) Ag lending background Prior loan review or special assets experience RMA, credit certification, or graduate banking program What We Offer Competitive salary ($75,000 - $150,000 based on experience) Performance-based incentives Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer match Paid time off and bank holidays A seat at the table — not a paper-pushing role Community bank culture where your work matters and your name is on it Herring Bank is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
