Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Auto Collections Specialist is responsible for managing delinquent auto loan accounts. This role emphasizes early- and mid-stage collections, member engagement, loss mitigation, and portfolio performance. The specialist will work to reduce delinquency, prevent charge-offs, and maintain positive member relationships while adhering to all regulatory and credit union policies. Key Responsibilities Manage a portfolio of delinquent indirect auto loans, primarily within subprime credit tiers Perform outbound and inbound collection calls in accordance with FDCPA and applicable state/federal regulations Negotiate payment arrangements, extensions, deferments, and other loss mitigation solutions Analyze member financial situations to recommend appropriate resolution strategies Monitor accounts for risk indicators and escalate high-risk accounts as needed Coordinate with dealerships, repossession vendors, and third-party agencies when necessary Initiate repossession processes Maintain accurate and detailed records of all collection activities in the core system Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including CFPB, NCUA, and internal policies Meet or exceed established performance metrics (e.g., delinquency rates, roll rates, cure rates) Provide exceptional member service while balancing risk and recovery objectives Collaborate with internal teams (underwriting, lending, legal, bankruptcy) as needed
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of auto loan collections experience, preferably with sub-prime portfolios Experience working in a credit union or financial institution strongly preferred Proven track record of meeting or exceeding collection performance goals
Other Skills:
Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and member communication Ability to handle sensitive conversations with professionalism Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Detail-oriented with strong documentation habits Proficient in collection systems, core banking platforms, and Microsoft Office Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume workload Strong organizational and time management skills Must demonstrate a functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act. Monday through Friday 11 am to 8 pm.
