Job Description

Designated Managing Broker 1602 W Granville Ave, Chicago, IL 60660 Hybrid work $30,000
  • $100,000 a year
  • Part-time, Full-time $30,000
  • $100,000 a year
  • Part-time, Full-time About the company We are an established, independent property management company operating ~1,000 residential apartments and ~12 commercial storefronts in the Chicago area.
We focus on leasing and property management — no residential sales — and have a stable, professional office team. Our longtime designated managing broker is retiring after many years with the company, and we are looking for the right person to step into this role. The role This is the designated managing broker position for our firm, with primary responsibility for leasing compliance, licensed staff oversight, and commercial lease work. The core of the job is ensuring our residential leasing operations remain fully compliant with Illinois license law, IDFPR requirements, and the Chicago RLTO, and serving as the responsible licensee for the organization. Beyond compliance, you will play a meaningful role in our commercial portfolio — helping negotiate and draft leases for our storefront spaces and engaging prospective commercial tenants when vacancies arise. We are open to structuring this role in more than one way depending on the right candidate, and are genuinely flexible on hours, compensation structure, and employee vs. contractor classification. We are recruiting for two distinct candidate profiles — please read both: PATH A Compliance-focused / part-time If you are a seasoned managing broker looking to step back from full-time work while staying professionally engaged, this may be a strong fit. We need someone who takes compliance seriously, is reachable, and brings expertise to lease review, staff oversight, and regulatory matters — not just a license holder in name. In return, we offer predictable, low-pressure work with a stable organization, flexible hours, and no sales expectations. Prior experience managing a residential leasing or property management office is essential. Commercial lease experience is a plus. PATH B Active broker / hybrid compensation — with potential to build a brokerage division If you are an active broker with your own transaction deal flow looking for a stable base, we are open to a hybrid compensation arrangement. In exchange for a base salary, we as the sponsoring brokerage would receive a negotiated percentage of commissions on transactions you run through the firm. You would continue building your own book of business — we are not providing significant deal flow beyond occasional commercial leasing opportunities on our storefronts. The DMB compliance duties are the foundation of this role and are non-negotiable; the transaction income is incremental for both of us though could be significant. This path suits a broker who wants predictable income without giving up their production. For the right entrepreneurial candidate, there is a further opportunity: to build and lead a dedicated brokerage division within Urban Equities Real Estate Consultants from the ground up. We are open to this conversation with candidates who have the vision and drive to grow something meaningful — and we are willing to structure compensation that includes a direct participation in that division's performance. If you have ever wanted the platform and stability of an established firm combined with the upside of building your own operation, this is worth a conversation. What we are looking for in either candidate Active Illinois managing broker license in good standing with IDFPR Substantive experience in residential leasing or property management — you know the Chicago RLTO well Ability to review and provide meaningful guidance on lease agreements (residential and commercial) Professional, reliable, and reachable — this is a supervisory role with real legal responsibility Comfortable working with an established staff team in a stable, well-run operation
For Path B:
entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrated transaction production; division-building interest a strong plus Compensation Flexible and negotiated based on the arrangement. For the compliance-focused path, we expect a competitive part-time salary or retainer commensurate with experience. For the active broker path, we are open to a guaranteed base salary in exchange for a negotiated commission split on transactions run through the firm. For candidates interested in building a brokerage division, we are additionally open to a performance-based component tied directly to that division's results. We are willing to structure this creatively — please tell us what arrangement works for you and we will have a frank conversation. To apply Send a brief introduction, your IDFPR license number, and a summary of your relevant experience. We are moving quickly and aim to have someone in place within 30 days.
