To Apply for this Job Click Here Director of Accounting - Washington, DC Job Summary Beacon Hill has partnered with a client that is seeking a high-performing Accounting Manager who is ready to take the next step into a Director of Accounting role. This position will oversee day-to-day accounting operations while partnering closely with executive leadership on financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, compliance, and process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a hands-on approach to accounting operations, a strategic mindset for automation and efficiency, and the leadership skills necessary to guide the organization's accounting function. Job Responsibilities Manage accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities Oversee accounts payable processes, including invoice review, payment processing, vendor maintenance, expense reports, and 1099 reporting Manage accounts receivable functions, including deposits, revenue recognition, collections support, and monthly closing entries Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with
U.S. GAAP
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely completion of reconciliations and reporting requirements Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process, including preparation of audit schedules and responding to audit requests Assist with the preparation of tax filings and compliance reporting in partnership with external advisors Develop, implement, and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities while providing variance analysis and financial insights to leadership Monitor cash balances, banking activity, wire transfers, and overall treasury management functions Partner with leadership on payroll processing, payroll reconciliations, and employee-related financial transactions Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and optimization within accounting and financial reporting systems Support system implementations, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance of accounting and financial platforms Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience Strong experience managing accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis Thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting best practices Experience coordinating audits and working with external auditors Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills Proven ability to improve processes, streamline workflows, and implement automation initiatives Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential financial information with sound judgment and discretion Preferred Qualifications CPA certification Experience in nonprofit and/or association accounting Experience with Sage Intacct, Paylocity, and Concur Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience evaluating, implementing, or optimizing accounting systems and technology solutions Previous leadership experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
