Director of Accounting About the
Company:
We are a fast-growing, family-owned fire suppression company specializing in pre-engineered systems for commercial kitchens, vehicle paint booths, and industrial facilities. With operations in Missouri, Kansas, and Texas, we are committed to protecting life and property through reliable fire safety solutions and exceptional service.
Position Overview:
The Director of Accounting will oversee the company's financial reporting, controls, and accounting operations. This leadership role is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and developing robust financial processes to support scalability. This role reports directly to the CEO and works cross-functionally with operations, sales, and administrative teams. The role will be based at the company's headquarters in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Controls Oversee preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for several legal entities in accordance with GAAP. Ensure compliance with state-specific tax and regulatory requirements across all operating jurisdictions. Manage internal financial controls, including documentation and testing of key processes. Oversee timely preparation of KPI reports for senior management. Accounting Operations Lead core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and bank reconciliations. Supervise and develop accounting staff, including third-party partners and contractors if applicable. Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules. Process & Systems Management Optimize accounting systems and workflows for accuracy, automation, and scalability. Partner with technology and operations teams to integrate accounting systems with field service platforms Lead accounting components of system implementations or migrations as needed. Cash Management & Forecasting Manage cash flow reporting and short-term cash forecasts. Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and departmental reporting. Tax Serve as the primary liaison to external tax accountants. Support annual tax filings, 1099 reporting, and compliance with sales and use tax requirements in all operating states. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or director-level role. Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial systems. Expertise in NetSuite and Microsoft Excel. Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills. Impeccable character, integrity, and discretion. High attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset and demonstrated history of quality work products.
