DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Location:
Hybrid or On-site, Washington DC Metro area We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead the organization's accounting and finance operations. This hands-on leadership role oversees day-to-day financial management while supporting strategic planning, analysis, and sustainable growth. Reporting to executive leadership, the Director of Finance oversees financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, compliance, systems, internal controls, and finance team leadership. Key Responsibilities Develop and manage the annual operating budget and multi-year financial forecasts aligned with organizational priorities. Provide financial analysis and modeling to support growth, staffing decisions, and strategic initiatives. Advise leadership on financial risks, opportunities, and long-term sustainability. Oversee all core accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash management. Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close. Maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and reporting processes aligned with best practices. Manage banking relationships and oversee cash flow, liquidity, and reserves. Oversee revenue, billing, collections, and receivables to support accuracy and cash flow. Partner with department leaders to improve financial processes and support sound decision-making. Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, and regulatory requirements. Coordinate tax, audit, compliance, and regulatory matters with internal teams and external advisors. Serve as the primary liaison to auditors, tax advisors, banks, and financial service providers. Support executive leadership with financial planning, scenario modeling, and business analysis. Prepare and present clear financial reports, insights, and recommendations to leadership. Lead, coach, and develop the finance team while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture. Collaborate cross-functionally to align financial strategy with organizational goals. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. 7+ years of finance and accounting leadership experience; prior legal or law firm industry experience required. Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and accounting operations. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial management best practices. Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. CPA, MBA, or similar advanced credential highly preferred. CPA candidates will be given priority. Strategic mindset with strong business judgment and integrity. Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
