Role Summary The Inventory and Cost Accounting Director is responsible for leading enterprise wide inventory and costing activities across a complex manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong controls, and actionable insights into cost, margin, and operational performance. In this position, you will own global inventory and costing policies, partner closely with plant leadership and corporate teams, and drive consistency across systems and processes. Your work will directly impact profitability analysis, audit readiness, and executive decision making. Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all inventory and plant assets physically exist, are properly owned, and are accurately tracked, including third party warehouse locations
  • Oversee accurate valuation of inventory, work in process, and plant assets in accordance with GAAP, including reserves for obsolete, scrap, and shrink
  • Lead cycle counts, physical inventories, and variance analysis using standardized global procedures
  • Own standard cost development, updates, and governance to ensure consistent costing practices across systems
  • Ensure manufacturing and warehouse activity is fully and accurately recorded in financial systems
  • Analyze production and purchase price variances and partner with plant teams to explain cost and margin impacts
  • Prepare and review plant financial results, operational performance reports, and executive level dashboards
  • Support internal controls, SOX compliance, and internal and external audits with thorough documentation and evidence Key Requirements
  • Eight to ten plus years of experience in manufacturing or cost accounting or operations finance, including three to five years of public accounting experience with a Big Four firm
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with an active CPA required
  • Deep expertise in inventory valuation, standard costing, and manufacturing operations within SAP environments
  • Strong hands on experience with SAP FI CO and MM, including product costing, material ledger, and production order settlement
  • Experience supporting SOX controls, audits, and process documentation in multi plant or global organizations
  • Proven leadership experience managing complex, multi site accounting operations
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to translate operational data into clear financial insights
