Full-Time Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead the accounting function for a organization with construction and multifamily property management operations. This executive leadership position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, developing accounting talent, and supporting the company's continued growth. The successful candidate will bring significant expertise in construction accounting while providing strategic oversight of the multifamily property management accounting function through the Property Management Accounting Manager and their team. This role partners closely with executive leadership to improve processes, enhance reporting, and drive operational excellence. Essential Responsibilities Lead the organization's accounting operations and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP. Oversee all construction accounting activities, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, project accounting, contract accounting, and financial analysis. Provide executive oversight and leadership to the Property Management Accounting Manager and property accounting team, ensuring consistent, accurate property-level financial reporting and compliance with company policies. Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules. Direct the month-end and year-end close processes. Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies. Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and strategic financial initiatives. Coordinate annual audits and tax reporting with external auditors and advisors. Lead process improvement initiatives and support accounting system enhancements to improve efficiency and scalability. Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team. Qualifications Required Master's degree in Accounting. Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least five years in a senior accounting leadership role. Extensive construction accounting experience, including job costing, project accounting, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting. Experience overseeing multifamily property management accounting functions and leading accounting managers and teams. Thorough knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency. Preferred CPA designation preferred, but not required. Experience with property management and construction accounting software platforms, such as RealPage, Sage, or comparable ERP/accounting systems. Experience leading accounting organizations through growth, acquisitions, process improvements, or system implementations.
