We've partnered with a mission-driven organization to identify a Director of Accounting & Finance who will step into a clear path toward the CFO role. This is a high-impact leadership position reporting initially to an Interim CFO, with direct CEO exposure and board interaction. The ideal candidate brings strong non-profit finance expertise, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is comfortable evaluating and improving systems, processes, and team structure. Key Responsibilities Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management across a multi-entity organization Oversee accounting operations, ensuring GAAP compliance and accurate, timely reporting Prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, and insights to executive leadership and board members Manage grants and fund accounting, including compliance, reporting, and allocation of funds Partner cross-functionally with department leaders to align financial strategy with organizational goals Evaluate and optimize financial systems, tools, and processes (including underutilized platforms) Ensure compliance with federal, state, and regulatory requirements (education sector experience strongly preferred) Oversee audits and implement recommendations for process improvements Lead, develop, and scale the finance and accounting team What Sets This Role Apart Clear path to CFO with executive visibility Opportunity to shape financial strategy and infrastructure in a growing organization High-impact role supporting mission-driven initiatives Collaborative leadership environment with cross-functional influence If you're a strategic finance leader ready to step into a CFO-track role and drive meaningful impact, this is a strong opportunity to consider.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 5+ years being in a managerial role

Workday experience (Workday Financials highly preferred) Strongly preferred: education (K-12 or similar) Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and reporting Experience with fund/grant accounting and multi-entity environments Familiarity with financial systems (e.g., Adaptive, Blackbaud) preferred CPA and/or advanced degree preferred
