Position Summary The Financial Aid Counselor works under general supervision and is responsible for providing, obtaining, processing, and packaging student financial aid, compiling of data and other associated duties. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Job Duties and Responsibilities This position involves developing and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of institutional, state, and federal financial aid programs while determining student eligibility for institutional, state, federal, and private funding sources. The role includes counseling students and parents to provide information, assess eligibility, and resolve issues, as well as participating in both on
  • and off-campus outreach activities.
Additional responsibilities include supporting office operations such as customer service, responding to phone calls and emails regarding financial aid and scholarship inquiries, and completing data entry and processing related to financial aid packaging for various scholarship programs. The position also will be assisting with private scholarship deposits, reviewing financial aid and scholarship reports to implement corrective actions, and managing scholarship exceptions and holds, as well as other duties as assigned.   • Knowledge of COD, FPP, NSLDS, and ADHE.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and professionally orally and in writing.
  • Ability to quickly disseminate information, determine eligibility, and resolve problems
  • Ability to review and evaluate student financial needs and prepare appropriate financial aid package
  • Expertise with state and federal laws that impact the packaging and awarding process
  • Expertise of state and institutional scholarships, policies, and procedures as well as other resources available to students Skills Considered Essential for Success

Required Education and/or Experience The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree; plus 1 year experience in higher ed, financial aid, customer service, or related field. Preferred Education and/or Experience 2 Years experience in Financial Aid preferred but not required.
