This role includes helping students complete financial aid and scholarship applications, resolving escalated issues, and offering guidance on financial aid processes. In addition, the position may involve more technical tasks, such as determining and making financial aid awards. The Specialist will also collaborate with other campus departments and assist with presentations related to financial aid and scholarships. Essential Functions 30%
  • Provide accurate, consistent frontline customer service to students and parents, offering guidance on financial aid programs and services. 20%
  • Analyze and interpret financial aid regulations to respond to inquiries, ensuring compliance with policies while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. 20%
  • Review and process financial aid reports, awards, and respond to inquiries via phone, email, and chat. 20%
  • Assist with day-to-day operations in the Financial Aid Office, ensuring smooth workflow and efficient service. 5%
  • Represent the college at special events, including financial aid workshops, orientations, and other campus programs. 5%
  • Assist in training and providing guidance to temporary employees, and perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, customer service, or related student development programs. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Desired Qualifications A. One (1) or more years' experience working in student services in academic advising, admissions, financial aid, outreach, or welcome centers within a college or university setting. B. One (1) or more years' experience in customer service with high public contact, providing excellent customer service in-person, via phone, and/or email while managing inquiries in a fast-paced environment. C. One (1) or more years' experience with state or federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to student services, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines in a higher education setting. D. One (1) or more years' experience with software applications and proficiency in using student information systems (e.g., Peoplesoft), Dynamic Forms, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, phone systems, and other relevant software. E. One (1) or more years' experience in a student-facing role with direct interaction and support for students, ensuring they receive necessary services while maintaining adnce to institutional policies. F. Ability to communicate effectively with strong written communication skills, including proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and attention to detail, as demonstrated in the cover letter and resume. G. One (1) year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years. Special Working Conditions Applicants must be in good standing with all U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid programs and eligible to access federal websites required to perform job duties.
