Job Description

Educates and helps students and prospective students navigate the financial aid process. This process begins at the moment a prospective student considers enrollment and continues through graduation or withdrawal. Financial Aid Counselors are expected to provide exceptional customer service to existing students, prospective students, and other department members within Florida Tech. Aids in the student retention effort by helping students find alternatives to withdrawal.
Responsibilities Include:
Counsels students and families in person, via phone, and virtually, in all aspects of financial aid for all programs available to students at FIT. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal, state and institutional guidelines. Resolves SAR C-flags and confirms student eligibility when FAFSA confirmations fail. Assists in aid eligibility assessment, funds disbursement, and aid reconciliation procedures. Reviews and updates awards packages, adjusting aid as necessary to comply with state, federal and institutional guidelines. Posts, processes and originates/certifies Direct Stafford, Parent and Graduate PLUS Loans. Processes Private loans and ensures receipt of MPNs, Entrance Counseling and certification records. Monitors and adjusts student's borrower based aid year information Coordinates with Athletics, Resident Life, and other university departments in awarding grants, scholarships, GSA and GRA awards. Assists families in the review of cases for special conditions and/or professional judgment. Assists with verification for students selected by the Department of Education as well as institutionally selected students. Reviews Florida Residency documentation and verifies eligibility for state aid Indexes documents received via fax, email and in-person for processing and review.
Requirements include:
High school diploma or GED. Minimum 0-2 years of relevant work experience required. Annual Security & Fire Safety Report The federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) requires colleges and universities, both public and private, participating in federal student aid programs to disclose campus safety information, and imposes certain basic requirements for handling incidents of sexual violence and emergency situations. Florida Tech's 2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Florida Tech; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The numbers provided include crime statistics that were reported to local law enforcement agencies, campus security and other Campus Security Authorities. The report also includes institutional policy statements regarding campus safety and security measures; descriptions of prevention and awareness programs; related university procedures and important guidance; and other essential safety information. Official Transcripts Official transcripts of all collegiate work must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Office of Human Resources prior to the first day of employment. All international degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).
