BASIC PURPOSE
Counsel and advise students and their families about the financial aid process, eligibility, and award programs. This position will be responsible for preparing and conducting financial aid presentations to groups. The Financial Assistance Coach will participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
  • This position has college-wide responsibilities and requires travel between all campuses and off-site locations. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.
  • This position requires the PA Child Abuse, PA State Police and FBI Fingerprinting clearances prior to the first day.
  • This position has been approved for a flexible work option arrangement.
Flexible work options can be ended at any time by the College, Cabinet, and/or supervisors based on employee performance and/or as institutional needs change.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform verifications, needs analysis, eligibility confirmation, and financial aid awards in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policies. Determine if students qualify for an unusual/mitigating circumstance; exercise professional judgment by making adjustments or revisions to costs, contribution, need, or dependency status as exceptions to the prescribed process. Conduct regular proactive outreach efforts to impact recruitment and retention and participate in student recruitment and retention activities including attending orientation, information sessions, and other events to advise prospective students and their families. Answer questions and requests from students, parents/guardians, in person, virtually, by phone, or in writing regarding financial aid programs and eligibility. Assist in the preparation of and presents information regarding federal financial aid, scholarships, employment, and grants for various campus groups, high school students, and parents at meetings, group discussions, workshops, and recruitment sessions. Act as Tier 2 support for frontline escalations of financial aid issues. Process Title IV verifications Contact students and lenders, employers, donors, guarantee agencies and/or staff to resolve issues. Performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Education/Training/Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree required 3 years or more of experience in financial aid student counseling (preferred).
Specialized Knowledge & Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge of federal Title IV financial aid programs, awarding eligibility requirements, and supporting regulations. Demonstrated knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy (FERPA) requirements, and adherence to the highest professional and ethical standards to maintain data confidentiality and integrity. Demonstrated knowledge of government, donor and/or institutional rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures for awarding of financial aid. Demonstrated knowledge of how the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculation works and how the EFC impacts the awarding of Title IV funds. Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities. Excellent presentation skills.

Must be in good standing with Title IV loans.
