Protective Life is seeking a General Accounting Analyst for our bank reconciliations team. This team member plays a critical role in keeping the company's financial foundation strong. In this role, you'll be responsible for reconciling bank and general ledger accounts, investigating variances, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data that supports business decisions. You'll gain hands-on experience with enterprise financial systems, collaborate with partners across the organization, and contribute directly to month-end and year-end close activities. This position is ideal for an analytical, detail-oriented accounting professional who wants to build a strong career in financial operations while developing technical skills, business acumen, and process improvement expertise within a highly regulated industry. Key Responsibilities Reconcile bank and general ledger accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting. Monitor daily bank activity and match transactions. Partner with internal teams to obtain documentation and resolve reconciling items. Utilize reconciliation tools, including Cadency, to support efficient monthly and ongoing reconciliations. Investigate and resolve discrepancies, errors, and variances in a timely manner. Prepare journal entries and accounting reports to maintain general ledger integrity. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. Analyze trends and identify opportunities for process improvements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address accounting issues and improve workflows. Assist with internal and external audit documentation and requests. Maintain accurate and organized reconciliation and reporting documentation. Serve as backup for team members and complete additional duties or projects as assigned.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Required:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including filters, pivot tables, and lookup formulas (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. 1 year of applicable experience in Accounting or Finance. Experience performing financial reconciliations. Preferred Qualifications Experience with SAP or similar enterprise financial systems. Familiarity with reconciliation tools or automation platforms. Understanding of ledger balancing, financial research, and audit support processes. Protective's targeted salary range for this position is $52,500 to $65,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective's total compensation package for employees. The internal title for this position is Analyst, General Accounting.
