Job Description

The San José Police Department is dedicated to providing public safety through community partnerships and 21 st Century Policing practices, ensuring equity for all. The Department is committed to treating all of San Jose's diverse community members with dignity, fairness, and respect, while protecting their rights and providing equal protection under the law. The Police Department is currently hiring for an Analyst I/II in the Fiscal Unit's Grants Management Team. Under the direction of the Senior Grants Analyst, the position will perform professional analytical work of considerable difficulty. This position will perform duties such as collect monthly and quarterly program data, prepare quarterly financial and programmatic progress reports, monitor and reconcile grant budgets, monitor program revenue and expenditures, prepare budget modification requests, and work collaboratively with program managers and the non-profit partner on program implementation and monitoring. This position will also be responsible for assisting program managers in the grant application process, evaluating specific grant requirements, preparing council memo and contract transmittal for the execution of grant agreements, updating a grant inventory listing and complete grant closeout processes. A successful candidate should have the sufficient experience and education to demonstrate: Knowledge and skill in accounting and grant administration principles; Strong organizational skills; An understanding of City functions and processes such as budget cycles and procurement rules; An understanding of financial management including grant rules and budgeting; An ability to prepare financial reports; Strong report writing techniques and principles of editing; Basic research techniques;; The ability to organize, analyze and interpret data and statistics; The ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing; And the ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, standards and procedures. Strong technical skills with MS Excel, MS Word, FMS and PeopleSoft are highly valued. Education and Experience Analyst I A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Analyst II A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university AND two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional staff analytic or administrative experience conducting studies, organizing and analyzing data, and preparing reports, recommendations, or conclusions for a functional area in budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration, or human resources. Acceptable Substitution Additional years of experience in a position comparable to the Staff Specialist with the City of San José in areas such as budget, finance, grant administration, organizational analysis, general administration or human resources may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis. Background Submit to a personal background investigation as required by the Police Department.
