Job Title:
Financial Reporting Analyst I Job Description The Financial Reporting Analyst I plays a key role in the quarterly and annual financial statement close process, supporting the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements and related presentations. This role assists with SEC filings, collaborates closely with external auditors, and participates in actuarial and other cross-functional discussions. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting or finance professional who is eager to grow in financial reporting, SEC compliance, and audit support within a dynamic corporate environment. Responsibilities Assist with the quarterly financial statement close process, including coordination across the organization and review of various account reconciliations. Prepare and review key financial statement analysis files as part of the quarterly close process to ensure accuracy and consistency. Contribute to process improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of the financial statement close process. Prepare and/or review Form 10-Q, Form 10-K, and other SEC filings and presentations using Workiva, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Support the preparation of XBRL tagging for SEC filings and related exhibits as needed. Work directly with external auditors on various reviews and audits, providing requested documentation, explanations, and support. Assist with the preparation of the proxy statement and related financial sections and disclosures. Participate in actuarial and other related discussions to understand and accurately reflect financial impacts in the financial statements and disclosures. Support the monthly close process and regulatory reporting activities as needed. Perform other related financial reporting and analysis duties as assigned. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 1-2 years of experience in accounting, public audit, or a closely related field, preferably with exposure to financial reporting. Experience working with Form 10-K, Form 10-Q, XBRL, and other forms and exhibits filed with the SEC. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work with complex spreadsheets and perform detailed financial analysis. Experience with an enterprise ledger system, such as SAP, or a comparable general ledger platform. Strong learning aptitude and the ability to quickly understand new systems, processes, and regulatory requirements. Solid understanding of financial statements, financial reporting concepts, and the monthly and quarterly close process. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and reviewing financial information. Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with auditors, finance teams, and other stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced reporting environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Big 4 public accounting experience or experience in a similar public audit environment is highly preferred. Active pursuit of CPA licensure or a CPA track is highly preferred. Prior accounting or finance internship experience, particularly in financial reporting or audit, is beneficial. Insurance or annuity industry experience is a plus and can enhance understanding of actuarial discussions and related disclosures. Experience using Workiva or similar platforms for SEC reporting and financial statement preparation is advantageous. Demonstrated ability to contribute to process improvement initiatives and to streamline reporting workflows. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and regulatory requirements. Collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with cross-functional teams, including actuarial, finance, and external auditors. Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site position based in a downtown Des Moines office environment. The role operates in a professional corporate setting that focuses on financial reporting, SEC compliance, and audit support. You will work extensively with Microsoft Excel, an enterprise ledger system such as SAP, and Workiva for SEC filings and financial presentations. The work follows a standard business schedule, with increased activity and time-sensitive deadlines during quarterly and annual close and SEC filing periods. The environment encourages collaboration with finance, actuarial, and audit teams and supports professional growth in accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
