Appointment Type Full Time Regular Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Business Process and Reporting Analyst - Financial Aid provides technical leadership and support in the development, implementation, and enhancement of technical solutions critical to the mission of Financial Aid. This position improves business processes by working with staff to analyze day-to-day and recurring operations and taking a technical lead role in designing and communicating enhancements and fixes to information technology staff, as well as keeping staff apprised of status updates, leads testing, and assists with documenting and training staff on improvements and changes, including upgrades to Financial Aid student information systems (SIS) and reporting software. The Business Process and Reporting Analyst - Financial Aid researches, develops, and enhances the University's student data system and other related applications enhancing the Office of Student Financial Aid's daily operations. Description of Primary Duties 1. Serves as the primary senior technical and business process liaison between the Office of Student Financial Aid, Information Technology, and external vendors, translating complex federal, state, institutional, and donor-based aid requirements into scalable system functionality, workflows, and reporting solutions. 2. Analyzes business needs and regulatory requirements in partnership with Financial Aid leadership and designs, configures, and enhances SIS functionality using established project management and systems development life cycle methodologies. 3. Provides functional ownership and subject matter expertise for financial aid-related SIS modules, including packaging, awarding, disbursement, satisfactory academic progress, verification, compliance tracking, and related integrations. 4. Plans, implements, tests, documents, and supports system enhancements by partnering with Information Technology on performance, access, security, data integrity, and integration issues affecting Financial Aid operations. 5. Leads and coordinates testing efforts for system updates, patches, and upgrades, including development of test scenarios, oversight of user testing, documentation of results, and communication of impacts and risks to departmental leadership. 6. Designs, develops, validates, and maintains complex financial aid reports, dashboards, and data extracts to support operational processing, reconciliation, audit readiness, compliance monitoring, and executive decision-making. Provides support and expertise, as needed, to institutional effectiveness and reporting. 7. Develops and maintains comprehensive system documentation, procedural guides, and training materials; coordinates and supports communication and training related to new or modified systems, reports, and business processes. 8. Monitors regulatory changes, industry trends, and technological advancements impacting financial aid processing and compliance, advising leadership on potential impacts and leading system or workflow modifications to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and continuity of operations. 9. Coordinates with Financial Aid leadership to represent Financial Aid on institutional committees and workgroups related to SIS, reporting, data governance, and enterprise initiatives, while promoting and advocating appropriate data privacy, confidentiality, and security practices. 10. Maintains professional expertise through ongoing development and contributes to the overall success of the Office of Student Financial Aid by performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Education:
A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A bachelor's degree in a technology-related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience in one or more of the following areas is required: a) leadership and management of information technology projects, b) analysis of data systems for the enhancement of business operations, or c) production of advanced report writing through database application programming with fluency exhibited in at least three of the following: PL/SQL, SQL, Argos, Applications Manager (i.e. AppWorx), HTML, ASP, XML, GRAILS, Oracle tools, or similar languages or tools. Experience with relational databases and SQL is required. A minimum of one year of project lead experience is required. A minimum of one year of experience in the design of complex database-driven application systems is preferred. Knowledge of Ellucian's Banner software suite and ODS/EDW is preferred. Experience with web development is preferred. Supervisory experience is preferred. Work experience in higher education is preferred; work experience in the functional area is preferred.
Skills:
The ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, reason analytically, and communicate and develop processes with institutional stakeholders possessing differing levels of technical knowledge is required. The ability to solve complex procedural and/or software problems by using logic, creativity, technical, and interpersonal skills is required. Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with a focus on providing excellent customer service is required. The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information processed, stored, or accessed by the systems is required. Effective verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in writing technical specifications are required.
