Job Description
Overview The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) is a non-profit academic association dedicated to the advancement of the field of Asian Studies through international exchange, networking, publications, research support, and career development. With the support of the Swedish Government, AAS manages a project focused on developing the research capacity of institutions located in post-conflict and conflict areas of Southeast and South Asia. We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and organized financial professional to coordinate the project's financial activities. This Position requires excellent communication skills, bookkeeping experience, and grant management experience. The Financial Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and work closely with our Director of Financial Operations and Project Consultant and in partnership with international institutions. AAS is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 2 days/week working in our Ann Arbor office after a probationary period.

The Financial Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and work closely with our Director of Financial Operations and Project Consultant and in partnership with international institutions. AAS is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 2 days/week working in our Ann Arbor office after a probationary period.Responsibilities:
Coordinate and support all financial details of this project in accordance with U.S. GAAP and grant requirements. Maintain accurate account of the project's income and expenditures using an appropriate accounting system and Microsoft Excel. Review requisitions and payments with the Project Consultant before approval by AAS' Director of Financial Operations and Executive Director. Process the semi-annual disbursement to the implementing partners and coordinate with the hubs to transfer the funds for the research grants and fellowships. Process individual grantees' initial grant disbursement upon approval of research project and final payment upon completion of project. Communicate with the Asia-based implementing partners and focal points (regional hubs and others) regarding the project's financial operations. Assist Hubs with budget preparation and expense reporting. Track budget versus actual expenses for the project ensuring compliance with the grant budget and grant rules. Work with the Director of Financial Operations and Project Consultant to ensure that sound accounting practice and resource management remain in placed among the implementing partner institutions. Work with Implementing parters to ensure budgets, expense documentation and annual audits are submitted timely. Assist with financial training with the implementing partners and focal points as needed. Maintain records and documentation as well as confidentially of information. Liaise with hubs regarding implementation of their individual audits. Assist with reporting financial progress and results to funding institutions. Assist with preparations for the annual audit of the project.Qualifications:
Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field preferred; minimum 4 years of related work experience required. Prior experience working in the nonprofit sector and with international partners. Working knowledge of accounting platforms and software such as Tipalti, and MIP Fund Accounting. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical skills required. Ability to clearly communicate financial issues to non-English speaking individuals. Prior experience and understanding of the nonprofit sector, grant managment and financial/grant audits. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro.
