This role requires a highly skilled professional capable of operating effectively in a fast-paced, complex environment while performing a wide range of responsibilities. The position provides senior-level capacity and leadership support to both the Affordable Housing leadership team and direct portfolio management functions. The role is responsible for relationship management, optimizing returns, and identifying and managing risk across Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) investments and affordable housing loans. The position requires strong knowledge of real estate finance and accounting, financing documentation, and the interpretation of legal agreements. Success in this role requires strong analytical judgment, clear written and verbal communication, effective prioritization, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary leadership team. - Team Lead is expected to work closely with ADAMs to support their respective teams and actively participate in leadership functions, ensuring consistent execution of asset management standards and risk management practices.
Leadership Responsibilities:
In partnership with the ADAM, contributes to the development and execution of training and professional development plans for team members Provides leadership in team meetings, setting priorities, reinforcing expectations, and supporting consistent execution of asset management practices As delegated by the ADAM, leads and participates in strategic initiatives and special projects, including technology enhancements, policy and procedure development, and reporting improvements Assists management in identifying, evaluating, and implementing process improvement initiatives and may make recommendations to leadership Reviews and approves credit actions and equity installment requests, while providing coaching, guidance, and mentorship to Asset Managers to ensure sound judgment and policy alignment Provides interim leadership oversight during ADAM absences or leave periods to ensure continuity of operations, decision-making, and risk management Oversees relationship annual review processes for assigned teams by maintaining accurate review calendars, coordinating cross-functionally with Sponsor Analysis and Loan Administration, managing pipeline visibility, and ensuring consistency and quality in credit memos and approvals Serves as a mentor to Asset Managers in complex deal situations, challenging customer scenarios, or on an ongoing basis as needed
Business Operations Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility is providing senior-level oversight and leadership in managing a portfolio of affordable housing equity investments and loans across all phases of the asset life cycle, representing approximately 50-60% of overall role capacity. Exercises sound judgment in evaluating risk, performance, and compliance while guiding asset strategy and decision-making. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing oversight and approval of construction draw packages and assessing construction-related investment and lending risk exposure Evaluating property-level financial performance, credit quality, and emerging risks to inform portfolio strategy and leadership decisions Leading site inspections and engaging with sponsors, borrowers, and internal stakeholders to ensure asset quality, compliance, and alignment with program objectives Interpreting complex operating agreements, loan documents, and legal structures to support effective risk management and enforcement Delivering clear, executive-level written and verbal reporting on portfolio performance, trends, and key risk considerations Independently provides ad hoc coverage for a variety of clients and portfolios across multiple phases of the tax credit investment and loan life cycle, including construction, lease-up, stabilization, and workout Keeps the Assistant Director of Asset Management informed of material deal, relationship, and portfolio issues, including any deterioration in asset or loan quality, in accordance with credit policy Leads and/or consults on workout and restructuring efforts for troubled investments and loans in accordance with established credit standards Serves as final business line approver for designated credit actions and equity installment fundings, ensuring alignment with policy and risk standards, as assigned by the ADAM Basic Qualifications Typically Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience Typically eight or more years of related experience Preferred Skills/Experience Thorough understanding of tax credit investment management, Section 42 regulations, partnership, and tax compliance and affordable housing lending Experience must be in real estate asset management, multi-family housing management, program management of federal housing programs, and interpreting and implementing HUD regulations Advanced knowledge of construction finance, legal documentation and requirements, real estate property management, and accounting Highly motivated, able to work independently with minimal direction, make sound business discussions with little historical context and possesses acute attention to detail Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills Strong time management skills and ability to effectively manage competing priorities Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills Strong leadership skills Location The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.
