Job Description

Construction Accounting Manager Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations for our construction projects and corporate accounting functions. This role is responsible for managing project accounting, job costing, budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, payroll coordination, and supporting operational leadership with accurate financial insights. The ideal candidate has strong construction industry accounting experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Manage general ledger accounting and bank account reconciliations
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes Construction Project Accounting
  • Manage full-cycle construction accounting for multiple projects simultaneously
  • Monitor project billing, retainage, and subcontractor payments
  • Track collection payments from GC's and enforce deadlines
  • Monitor company cash flow and liquidity needs
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure financial accuracy across projects
  • Ensure timely processing of subcontractor invoices and progress billings
  • Manage retainage receivable and payable balances Compliance & Controls
  • Oversee sales tax filings, payroll tax compliance, and licensing requirements
  • Support annual audits and work with external auditors and tax professionals
  • Maintain internal controls and accounting policies
  • Manage Accounts Receivable duties and oversee Accounts Payable
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and payment issues promptly
  • Monitor payment schedules and vendor relationships
  • Ensure compliance with lien waiver, insurance, and subcontractor documentation requirements Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff
  • Improve accounting workflows and financial reporting systems
  • Collaborate with operations, HR, and executive leadership
  • Assist with ERP/accounting software optimization and implementation Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry
  • 2+ years of management or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction contracts
  • Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, Foundation, or similar platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
  • Knowledge of GAAP and construction financial practices
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred but not required Preferred Skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Experience working with subcontractors and project management teams
