Commercial Construction Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Accounting Manager to lead financial accounting operations for our California region within the commercial construction industry. This role serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, acting as the Finance & Administration representative and providing critical financial insights through reporting, trend analysis, and KPI dashboards to support informed decision-making. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, project-based environment and is passionate about building strong processes, developing teams, and driving operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Month-End Close Maintain complete and accurate general ledger records, including journal entries, accrals, and reconciliations Lead and drive the timely month-end close process, including job-level revenue and cost recognition using percentage-of-completion and AIA billing Oversee accounting for prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, depreciation, and fixed assets Ensure all balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled on a monthly basis Review and approve both recurring and non-recurring journal entries Maintain the chart of accounts and support budgeting, forecasting, and financial tracking Management Oversight Supervise Accounts Payable processes to ensure accurate job coding, timely vendor payments, and strong vendor relationships Oversee Accounts Receivable collections, including retainage management and compliance with "paid-when-paid" provisions Partner closely with Project Managers to resolve billing discrepancies and payment delays Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reporting requirements Sales & Use Tax Compliance Ensure timely and accurate calculation, filing, and payment of sales and use taxes across multiple jurisdictions Maintain detailed documentation to ensure compliance and audit readiness Internal Controls & Process Improvement Establish, document, and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy Continuously evaluate and enhance accounting policies, systems, and workflows Identify and implement process improvements to streamline close cycles and reporting Maintain and enter financial/project data within systems including FileMaker, QuickBooks, and CRM platforms Audit, Compliance & Reporting Support external auditors during annual audits and tax reviews Ensure compliance with GAAP , internal policies, and all applicable regulations Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting to leadership Skills & Competencies Strong analytical, financial reporting, and problem-solving skills Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and develop a team Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to collaborate cross-functionally and with executive leadership High level of integrity with a proactive, hands-on approach Why Join Us?
