Job Description:

Job Overview Beacon Hill is partnering with a well-established nonprofit organization seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting support, compliance, and team leadership. This role will serve as a key member of the finance department, ensuring the integrity of financial information while supporting organizational growth and mission-driven initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in nonprofit accounting, experience managing diverse finance functions, and a collaborative leadership style. This position will oversee a team responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grant and funder billing, month-end close, audit preparation, and financial reporting. Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules Support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and capital expenditure tracking Monitor compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, grant requirements, and regulatory standards Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and external reporting requirements Oversee grant and funder billing activities and ensure compliance with funding requirements Develop and improve accounting procedures, workflows, and internal controls to increase efficiency and scalability Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment Partner with leadership on strategic initiatives, financial analysis, and organizational decision-making Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and operational efficiencies Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities Experience managing month-end close, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls Prior experience supervising accounting teams and developing staff Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and grant or fund accounting Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems Excellent communication, leadership, and project management abilities Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution Preferred Qualifications CPA preferred Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred Experience working with grant-funded organizations Experience leading process improvement initiatives and strengthening internal controls Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems Beacon Hill is an equal opportunity employer and individuals with disabilities and/or protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
