Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Accounting and Budgeting Manager to co-manage financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounting oversight, and reporting activities across the organization. This role will manage core accounting and financial operations while partnering closely with our external bookkeeper to ensure accurate financial reporting, budget compliance, operational efficiency, and actionable business insights. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and accounting capabilities with hands-on experience managing budgets and finance related activities, and has experience with oversight of compliance with government contracts. Key Responsibilities Financial Planning & Analysis Work with external bookkeeper on annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasting, and long-range financial planning activities. Maintain financial models to support strategic decision-making, scenario planning, and business growth initiatives. Analyze monthly financial performance, identify variances, and provide recommendations to leadership. Partner with leaders to monitor spending trends and improve financial accountability. Accounting Oversight & Financial Management Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger activity, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial close processes. Coordinate with bookkeeping team for timely and accurate month-end and year-end close. Review financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and company policies. Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes. Support cash flow management, working capital analysis, and financial risk assessment. Assist in external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements as needed. Provide guidance on best practices for AR/AP duties. Collaborate with leadership to improve accounting systems, reporting automation, and operational efficiencies. Government Contract Budget Oversight Manage financial oversight of government contracts, grants, and project budgets to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and internal policies. Monitor contract funding, burn rates, indirect cost allocations, and project profitability. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations including FAR, CAS, and other government contracting requirements. Collaborate with program managers to track labor utilization, subcontractor expenses, and contract modifications. Reporting & Compliance Improve financial reporting processes, forecasting accuracy, and operational efficiencies. Assist with accurate and timely financial analysis to support executive decision-making. Maintain strong internal controls and ensure data integrity across financial systems. Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and management reports as needed. Leadership & Collaboration Mentor and support finance and accounting staff as applicable. Maintain relationship with external bookkeeper. Serve as a trusted business partner to operational and executive teams. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across FP&A, accounting, and contract financial management functions. Support strategic initiatives including system implementations, process improvements, and organizational growth planning. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required. 5+ years of progressive accounting, or corporate finance experience. 2+ years of experience supporting government contracts and budget oversight.
Strong knowledge of:
Government contracting regulations (FAR, CAS, DCAA) ,GAAP and corporate accounting practices ,Indirect rate structures and cost accounting , Budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling , Contract profitability and project-based accounting. Proficiency in Excel, Quickbooks, and financial reporting tools. Strong analytical, communication & organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Experience Experience in engineering, construction, professional services, or other related government contracting industries. Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders and executive leadership.
