Job Description

Project Accounting Manager Teichert, Inc. United States, California, Sacramento May 20, 2026 Purpose The Project Accounting Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Project Accounting function, comprising approximately 22 staff organized across three regional groups. The primary objectives of this role are to develop, coach, and hold accountable a team of Project Accounting Supervisors, drive process standardization and continuous improvement across all regional groups, and champion technology adoption to support a high-performing, consistent function. The Manager maintains a visible presence across all regional locations and cultivates strong partnerships with Operations leadership, Project Managers, and Project Engineers to ensure the team delivers reliable financial support to the business units. Accountability for the team's collective performance in billings, payments, cost projections, change order management, and month-end close is achieved through effective delegation, structured oversight, and a culture of accountability. Focus & Scope Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below: Leadership & People Development 1) Supervise, coach, and develop Project Accounting Supervisors through structured development planning, regular one-on-one engagement, and consistent performance accountability. 2.) Conduct performance evaluations that accurately reflect individual strengths and development areas with sufficient specificity to support compensation and personnel decisions. 3.) Delegate meaningfully to Supervisors, creating opportunities for them to lead initiatives and develop management capability. 4.) Maintain visible leadership presence across all regional locations through regular in-person engagement with distributed team members. 5.) Foster team cohesion, inclusive decision-making, and consistent communication across a geographically distributed group. Process Standardization & Quality 6) Establish and enforce standardized processes across all regional groups, ensuring consistency in work execution and eliminating variation. 7) Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all critical workflows, reducing dependency on institutional knowledge. 8) Implement a recurring quality audit cadence across key functions and drive continuous adoption of current and emerging technology platforms.
Technical / Specialty
Area 9) Oversee the team's end-to-end project accounting cycle, including client billing, subcontractor and vendor payments, change order processing, and month-end close. 10.) Ensure accurate and complete project records sufficient to support internal and external audit requirements. 11.) Provide cost and budget analysis, including job projections, collections activity, and cost data reporting. 12.) Build and maintain productive partnerships with Operations leadership, Project Managers, and Project Engineers to support project financial performance. Relationships, Qualifications and Requirements, & Competencies Key Relationships Reports to: VP & Treasurer Direct reports: Project Accounting Supervisors and their direct reporting teams of Project Accountants and Project Accounting Assistants External clients: Owners, developers, private customers, public agencies, state and federal regulatory agencies, subcontractors, suppliers, union contacts, labor compliance agencies Internal clients: Estimators, Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Area Managers, Regional Managers, Administrative Staff, Corporate Finance, Teichert Materials, Mobile Equipment, and Executive Management Role Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience. Professional certification such as Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) a plus.
Experience & Industry Expertise:
At least 8 years of experience in construction project accounting, cost engineering, or similar field. 5 years of progressive experience in a people management role, preferably supervising or acting as a team lead across multiple locations desired.
Specific Job Requirements:
Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation. Valid Driver's License. Current on all required safety and regulatory training. Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts of interest. Comprehensive understanding of construction project accounting, including percent-complete revenue recognition, WIP reporting, PCO management, and BIE/CIE dynamics. Excellent understanding of the construction industry, particularly in infrastructure and heavy civil construction. Strong financial analysis skills, including cost and budget analysis, total cost analysis, and cost data interpretation. Strong ability to analyze complex information and apply sound judgment to solve difficult problems. Ability to interpret, summarize, and communicate complex financial data to non-financial audiences in a clear and accessible way. Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and manage competing deadlines in a high-volume environment. Driven to meet or exceed business and financial milestones. Understand and be able to apply leadership principles and practices, including the ability to build and lead cross-functional, geographically distributed teams. Demonstrated ability to persuade and influence senior leaders across departments. Strong communication skills: verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and listening. Ability to write clear, candid performance evaluations that document both strengths and development areas with specificity. Demonstrated experience driving change management and technology adoption in a construction or project-based environment. Experience with construction ERP platforms (Vista/Trimble preferred), cost projection tools, business intelligence reporting, and workflow automation. Familiarity with IQ Projections and Power BI a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Regular travel required to all regional office locations. Occasional overnight travel required. Physical:
Sitting for long periods of time working on the computer or attending meetings. Job site visits require walking on uneven ground, steep slopes, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Some lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment:
Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Demands of meeting tight deadlines. Exposed to the conditions of job sites which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions prevalent at the time. May work various hours, including early mornings, dusk or evenings.
BASE SALARY RANGE
$145,000.00- $203,000.00 The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
