Job Description

Accounting ManagerPosition OverviewThe Accounting Manager will lead and manage the accounting function for a growing construction-focused organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, overseeing AP/AR and AIA progress billing, maintaining job cost and WIP accounting, administering Sage 300, and implementing strong internal controls. The Accounting Manager will supervise accounting staff, collaborate with project managers and executive leadership, and support month-end close, audits, and budgeting to drive financial performance and compliance.

Key ResponsibilitiesManage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including AIA progress billing, retainage tracking, collections, and subcontractor payments.

Administer and optimize the Sage 300 accounting system: setup, maintenance, reporting, and user support.

Perform job cost accounting and WIP analysis; reconcile project costs, monitor cost-to-complete, and support project managers with financial insights.

Prepare timely and accurate internal and external financial reports, variance analyses, and cash flow forecasts to support executive decision-making.

Ensure compliance with GAAP, contract terms, AIA billing standards, tax requirements, and company policies; coordinate audits and tax filings.

Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and improve financial processes.

Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team; assign tasks, review work, and support professional growth.Drive process improvements and system integrations to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of accounting workflows.

Communicate financial results and issues clearly to project teams, operations, and senior management; participate in cross-functional meetings and special projects.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.5+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in construction accounting or a construction-related environment.

Proven experience with Sage 300 (setup, reporting, and administration) is required.

Strong knowledge of AP/AR processes, AIA progress billing, retainage, and job cost accounting.

Solid understanding of GAAP, month-end close processes, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

Experience supervising and developing accounting staff with excellent leadership and communication skills.

Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems; ability to build reports and analyze large datasets.

Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Experience supporting audits, tax filings, budgeting, and cash-flow management.

Professional demeanor, high integrity, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers and senior leadership.
