Accounting Supervisor/Manager Danbury, CT Must-Haves Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5-10+ years of accounting experience within construction, mechanical contracting, or project-based industries Strong experience with: Job Costing WIP Reporting Percentage-of-Completion Accounting Construction/Project Accounting Hands-on accounting experience in a small to mid-sized company environment Experience managing full-cycle accounting operations Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems such as Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities Preferred Qualifications Experience in HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, or general contracting industries Experience supporting multiple active construction projects simultaneously CPA or CMA designation is a plus Position Overview We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Supervisor/Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations for a growing construction-focused organization in Danbury, CT. This is a highly visible individual contributor role ideal for someone who enjoys being deeply involved in accounting operations while partnering closely with leadership and project management teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong construction accounting expertise with a focus on job costing, WIP reporting, project profitability analysis, and financial reporting. This position will play a critical role in supporting business operations, maintaining accurate financial records, improving accounting processes, and helping drive continued company growth. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting Manage daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and bank reconciliations Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Lead month-end and year-end close processes Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies Support ownership and leadership with financial analysis, reporting, and operational insights Construction Accounting & Job Costing Maintain accurate job costing across multiple active projects Prepare and manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting Track project costs, revenue recognition, and profitability Partner with project managers and operations teams to review budgets and project financial performance Analyze variances and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities Monitor cash flow and support financial planning initiatives Identify financial risks, cost-saving opportunities, and process improvements Provide ad hoc reporting and financial analysis for leadership Process Improvement & Compliance Improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and internal controls Coordinate with external CPA firms, auditors, banks, and tax partners Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements Support ERP/accounting system optimization and maintenance Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required 5-10+ years of accounting experience in construction or project-based industries Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles and project financial management Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting Strong ERP/accounting software experience Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment Core Competencies Construction Accounting Job Costing & WIP Reporting Financial Reporting & Analysis General Ledger Management Budgeting & Forecasting Cash Flow Management ERP Systems GAAP Compliance Process Improvement Project Financial Management Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills Operational Support & Collaboration
