Job Description

ACCOUNTING MANAGER
Indian River Transport, one of the nation's premier liquid food-grade tank carriers, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our corporate team in Winter Haven, Florida. In operation since 1974, our mission has been to provide our customers with outstanding customer service, delivering their products safely and on time, every day, all year round. Position Summary The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, maintaining compliance with accounting standards and company policies, and supporting strategic financial decision-making. This role manages month-end close activities, financial reporting, account reconciliations, internal controls, and the development of accounting staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation. Analyze financial results and investigate significant variances. Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and payroll accounting functions Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls Coordinate and support external audits, internal audits, and tax preparation activities. Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflows. Oversee driver settlement accounting and ensure accurate and timely processing of driver compensation. Manage equipment and trailer depreciation schedules and related accounting entries. Oversee customer billing processes and freight revenue recognition in accordance with company policies and GAAP. Monitor and analyze transportation KPIs including operating ratio, revenue per truck, utilization, loaded and empty miles, and other operational metrics. Partner with operations leadership to provide financial analysis and performance reporting.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role preferred Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills. Experience in transportation, logistics, trucking, or distribution environments preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods of time. $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
