Job Description

Assistant Accounting Manager (Manager Successor Opportunity) We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Accounting Manager to join our growing law firm accounting team. This position is designed as a succession-planning opportunity for an accounting professional seeking advancement into a leadership role. The successful candidate will work closely with the current Accounting Manager and receive comprehensive training in the firm's accounting processes, systems, and financial operations. Upon successful completion of training and the planned retirement of the current Accounting Manager, the candidate will have the opportunity to transition into the Accounting Manager position, anticipated within one year. Responsibilities Manage daily Accounts Receivable activities, including client billing support, payment application, aging review, collections follow-up, and account reconciliation. Process and oversee Accounts Payable, including invoice review, coding, vendor management, and payment processing. Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures, including journal entries and general ledger reconciliations. Prepare financial analyses, internal reports, and supporting schedules for management. Maintain cash flow schedules and assist with forecasting and financial tracking. Ensure accounting records and accounting system data remain accurate and current. Support compliance with tax reporting requirements, including GET and 1099 filings. Provide backup support to the Accounting Manager and collaborate with attorneys, staff, and vendors as needed. Assist with process improvement initiatives and maintaining internal accounting controls.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience. Strong Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable experience. Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, spreadsheet development, and data analysis. Experience with accounting and billing software systems. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
Prior law firm or professional services accounting experience. Supervisory or leadership experience. Knowledge of Hawaii GET and 1099 reporting requirements. Compensation and Benefits Starting compensation of $30.00 per hour , with review and adjustment upon promotion to Accounting Manager.
