Position Summary
The HR/Finance Manager is a key role within the Administration and Finance Department, reporting to the Managing Director and collaborating closely with the Director of Finance and General Manager. This position oversees human resources, accounting support, and administrative operations to advance the organization's mission and ensure operational efficiency.
The HR/Finance Manager leads all aspects of human resources, including compliance with federal and state regulations, HR policy development, recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, and staff development. The role works closely with leadership to align HR practices with the organization's mission, culture, and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources
Direct all HR functions, ensuring compliance with employment law and Federal and state regulations while aligning policies with the organization's mission and values.
Review and update HR forms and documents to comply with annual legal and regulatory changes.
Stay informed on HR best practices, particularly those affecting arts workers, and share relevant information with staff.
Receive and process employee concerns and complaints per the Employee Handbook and Anti-Harassment Policy, collaborating with other members of the Senior Staff and Board of Directors as necessary Develop and maintain HR policies, the employee handbook, performance management systems, and exit procedures.
Assess employee benefits and serve as liaison to benefits brokers.
Assist staff with choosing and managing benefits, PTO, and payroll administration.
Maintain HR files for all employees, both electronic and hard copy.
Lead onboarding and exit interviews for full-time staff; process onboarding paperwork and welcome 100+ artists throughout the season.
Coordinate recruitment and hiring processes across all departments, including job postings, external recruitment support, interviews, and full-cycle hiring.
Oversee staff development budget and implement employee training programs.
Provide strategic oversight of payroll and benefits administration for staff and 300+ seasonal artists annually.
Conduct onboarding for new employees, ensuring smooth integration and alignment with organizational policies.
Administer and track performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and exit processes.
Serve as a confidential advisor for employee relations, addressing concerns, complaints, and conflicts; oversee investigations and mediations as needed.
Ensure HR processes are efficient and provide an excellent employee experience,Promote a collaborative, healthy work environment that strengthens employee satisfaction, cohesion, and production outcomes.
Finance
Manage open payables filing, and invoice entry into QuickBooks.
Scan and file paid invoices; reconcile insurance invoices and manage payroll accounting entries (QuickBooks, MineralTree).
Administer payroll using Paychex and maintain backup documentation for audits.
Process checks and ACH payments.
Provide other accounting support as needed.
Administrative Support
Monitor and maintain office supply inventory; oversee tidiness of common work areas (copier, postage machine, supply closet).
Serve as the point of contact for brokers of organizational insurance policies, including health, life, disability, and Worker's Compensation.
Serve as the point of contact to optimize payroll processes using Paychex and align with organizational needs.
Desired Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of experience in human resources, benefits administration, payroll, finance, or a related field.
Experience with payroll systems, QuickBooks, AP software, and Google Workspace preferred.
General interest in the arts is a plus with strong cross-cultural competency and sensitivity to employees and contractors from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to use a computer for extended periods.
Full-time, Monday-Friday; daytime schedule is generally flexible.
Desired start date: June 1, 2026
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary starting in the low- to mid-$60,000 range, commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance; a 403(b) retirement plan; disability and life insurance options; generous paid time off; and complimentary tickets to OTC productions, with access to other DMV-area theatres.
