About The Opportunity As an Accounting Manager, you will contribute to the accounting function by ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records across the general ledger and balance sheet. You will be responsible for executing key components of the month-end close, preparing reconciliations, maintaining internal controls, and partnering with cross-functional teams to support reliable and efficient accounting operations. This role is hands-on and execution-focused, requiring strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will work with large datasets and support accurate and timely financial close activities while helping maintain a strong control environment.
The Impact You Will Make Operational Close Activities:
Execute assigned components of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. Prepare journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules to ensure accurate financial results. Participate in close activities and meet established deadlines.
Balance Sheet Reconciliations:
Prepare detailed balance sheet reconciliations with clear supporting documentation. Ensure accounts are properly supported, reconciling items are identified, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner. Maintain accuracy and completeness of assigned accounts.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
Adhere to internal control requirements and company accounting policies. Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with audit and compliance standards. Identify potential issues and escalate appropriately.
Technical Accounting & Judgment Areas:
Apply
U.S. GAAP
to routine and non-routine accounting transactions. Assist in evaluating accounting treatment for complex items and ensure consistent application of accounting policies. Document accounting conclusions and supporting rationale where needed.
Audit Support & Stakeholder Coordination:
Support internal and external audit requests by preparing and providing documentation, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Respond to audit inquiries related to assigned accounting areas in a timely and organized manner.
Process Improvement & Transformation:
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, increase efficiency, and enhance accuracy. Support standardization of recurring activities and contribute to improvements in workflows, systems, and documentation.
General Ledger & Accounting Operations Oversight:
Perform general ledger activities including journal entries, account maintenance, and transaction analysis. Ensure proper coding, classification, and recording of financial transactions. Support the integrity of financial data feeding the general ledger. Specialized Accounting Areas (as applicable): Support accounting for areas such as fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses, leases, and gift card liabilities (if applicable). Maintain accurate tracking, reconciliation, and accounting treatment for assigned areas. What You Bring to the
Table Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (preferred) or Finance.
Certification:
Active CPA license
Experience:
4-7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally combining a foundation in a top-tier national public accounting firm with relevant industry experience. Experience auditing or working in a public company environment is preferred. Prior experience in a controllership or operational accounting environment strongly preferred
Technical Proficiency:
Strong understanding of GAAP and operational accounting principles, with the ability to apply accounting principles to complex transactions. Experience with general ledger systems and ERP platforms (Netsuite), advanced Excel proficiency, strong balance sheet reconciliation and close management experience. Data & Technical skills: Experience working with large datasets. Coding and/or SQL skills are highly preferred

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret and analyze financial data.

Effective communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.

Software Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Netsuite, Floqast As a matter of company policy, Wonder does not sponsor applicants for employment visa status for this role. Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome—and encouraged—to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.
Chicago Base Salary :
$115,000-$122,500 per year.
NYC Base Salary:
$128,000-$135,500 per year. Wonder uses geographic-specific salary structures, which means the salary offered may vary depending on where the job is located. The final salary offer will take into account various factors, such as the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.
