Construction / Manufacturing / Electrical Contracting / Precast About Us We are a well-established, multi-entity construction organization serving the electrical contracting and precast manufacturing industries. Our accounting systems and processes are well established, and we have a knowledgeable, experienced accounting team in place. We partner with outside accounting professionals for higher-level tax strategies and specialized accounting needs. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on accounting leader who can provide day-to-day financial oversight, ensure compliance, support ownership, and lead a strong internal team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized, adaptable professional who enjoys both leadership and rolling up their sleeves to get the work done. Position Summary The Controller / Accounting Operations Manager will oversee daily accounting operations across multiple affiliated companies while directly participating in critical accounting, payroll, compliance, and administrative functions. This individual will supervise experienced accounting staff, complete monthly payroll processing for multiple companies, prepare and submit sales tax filings, oversee month-end financial close, and serve as a key liaison with outside accountants, auditors, insurance carriers, bonding companies, and ownership. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced construction environment where priorities can shift quickly, and strong problem-solving skills are essential. Responsibilities Financial Management & Accounting Oversight Prepare and finalize monthly financial statements including a detailed review of all financial activity Prepare and post minimally required journal entries Review quarterly financial statements for affiliated smaller entities Review all bank reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items Review weekly accounts payable for accuracy and cash flow management Payroll Processing Process payroll once a month to maintain efficient knowledge Serve as primary payroll backup and ensure continuity of payroll operations Review payroll accuracy, deductions, tax reporting, and internal controls Support payroll troubleshooting and issue resolution Sales Tax & Compliance Prepare, file, and remit sales tax returns Maintain compliance with applicable reporting deadlines Submit annual business filings Maintain corporate records and annual minutes for various entities Support year-end tax preparation and audit documentation requests Insurance / Bonding / External Relations Coordinate annual insurance renewals for all entities Serve as liaison with: insurance brokers/carriers bonding companies banks/lenders outside accountants auditors regulatory agencies Leadership / Operational Support Supervise experienced accounting staff Learn all internal accounting functions sufficiently to provide review, oversight, and backup support Identify errors, inconsistencies, and process improvement opportunities Assist ownership with operational reporting and special projects Maintain strong internal controls and documentation processes Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Management, Finance, or related field Strong hands-on accounting experience Payroll processing experience Strong Microsoft Excel skills QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise or comparable accounting software experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and time management skills High attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Construction accounting experience Ideal Candidate Traits We're looking for someone who is: ✔ proactive ✔ highly organized ✔ adaptable under pressure ✔ detail-oriented ✔ collaborative but accountable ✔ comfortable balancing leadership with hands-on execution ✔ confident communicating with ownership and external professionalsPay:
