Job Description
Position OverviewThe Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of a professional services organization while supporting firm-wide financial strategy and compliance initiatives. This role partners closely with leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and efficient accounting processes. The position also leads and mentors the accounting team, drives continuous improvement, and supports audits, tax filings, and ad hoc financial analysis for a growing, fast-paced organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage daily accounting operations, including general ledger activities, reconciliations, and journal entries.
Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and internal financial reports.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to reporting timelines.
Coordinate with external accounting and tax partners to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records.
Prepare, review, and file required informational returns (e.g., 1096, 1099) and oversee compliance with federal and state tax deadlines.
Review tax-related documentation for accuracy and compliance prior to submission.
Support internal and external audits, including documentation preparation, responses, and final reviews.
Oversee and prioritize accounting projects to support business and operational initiatives.
Research, document, and provide guidance on technical accounting and tax matters; support training efforts as needed.
Supervise accounts receivable and accounts payable functions for both the organization and clients, serving as a backup when required.
Lead vendor statement reconciliations, research discrepancies, and resolve issues.
Maintain and reconcile client trust accounts in compliance with applicable requirements.
Manage state use tax filings and business registrations.
Oversee professional licensing and membership renewal processes.
Prepare ad hoc financial, census, and management reports as requested.
Provide general financial and accounting support to executive leadership.
Mentor, coach, and support the development of accounting team members.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational needs.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or a combination of education and relevant accounting experience.2-5 years of supervisory or management experience in an accounting function.
Proven accounting experience; experience within a professional services environment preferred.
Background working in a modified cash-basis accounting environment is a plus.
Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to research, compile, and interpret financial data.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing and presenting reports.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, accounting software such as QuickBooks, and related financial systems.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and support a collaborative team environment.
