Senior Associate, Investment Operations AB CarVal is an established global alternative investment manager and part of AllianceBernstein's Private Alternatives business. The Senior Associate, Investment Operations is responsible for supporting the valuation function. Specifically, this role is responsible for daily and monthly pricing, and the review of resulting profit and loss. This role works closely with Investment Professionals, Operations and the Valuation Committee. Principal Accountabilities Valuation- 70%
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of principles, concepts, practices, industry standards and applies best practices
  • Interpret complex situations that arise and facilitate matters and processes with management
  • Provide technical assistance related to valuation process including assessing and challenging the quality of vendors, pricing overrides, and maintaining valuation models
  • Support the review of profit and loss information and effectively communicate monthly profit and loss drivers within the organization
  • Provide guidance related to complex situations that arise and facilitate matters and process with team members
  • Assist in developing valuation processes and procedures to support business activities
  • Collaborate with internal and external groups to influence business objectives
  • Prepare reporting and analysis and provide solutions as required
  • Collaborate with valuation committee members, create and present documents, and highlight key topics and issues to review
  • Support the financial statement audit testing of financial products
  • Update and maintain investment attributes on new positions, including valuation levels
  • Assist with research and benchmarking of regulatory and industry trends related to valuation best practices
  • Support the third-party valuation process, and review of level 3 assets Business Partnering - 30%
  • Manage third-party administrators and ensure high quality service delivery
  • Utilize judgment in making decisions related to the valuation function and assume responsibility for the impact to the business
  • Understand key areas of the business and anticipate potential issues and proactively communicate solutions to others within the team or management
Qualifications Required:
  • 5+ years of finance, accounting, or related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, including building internal and external relationships
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  • Strong computer and advanced excel skills
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • Confidence and professionalism in dealing with senior investment professionals
  • Ability to understand complex investment structures, including the ability to communicate them verbally and in writing
  • Natural curiosity and strong initiative to learn: Continuously evolving business environment; individual must be flexible in solutions and related approach
  • Strong sense of urgency & ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience working in an alternative investment fund manager or similar industry
  • Demonstrated initiative in communicating issues and concepts to multiple groups at multiple levels
  • Negotiation and conflict management skills
Preferred:
  • Experience with Bloomberg
  • Experience working with third-party valuation servicers and pricing vendors
