Description Billings School District 2 is seeking an Accounting Manager to assist in oversight of the accounting operations for Billings Public Schools. The Accounting Manager will help lead the day-to-day finance operations of an operating budget of approximately $200,000,000 and supervise a team of staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable. The Accounting Manager will assist in ensuring that Billings Public Schools has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation. Location Lincoln Center. Start Date July 2026 Schedule 12-Month Position; 8 hours per day; Monday- Friday. Salary $96,935.00 per year. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required. At least 3 years of management experience preferred. Minimum of five years of related experience in school district or other local government accounting capacity with reporting experience preferred. Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting including pronouncements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board strongly preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Expectations Review and provide oversight of all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuringpliance with appropriate GAAP standards. Assist in maintaining internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenues and expenditures. Monitor the receipt of all ie, manage cash flow and bank balances to meet the financial obligations and needs of Billings Public Schools; regularlymunicate status to CFO, Controller and Billings Public Schools leadership. Manage departmental staff (excluding payroll accountants), including monitoring and evaluating work performance, assisting withplex or unusual problems, delegating tasks and responsibilities, providing training and direction, and interviewing and suggesting applicants for departmental hire. Ensures quality work products are produced under tight timelines by prioritizing work and scheduling staff to meet demands. Oversee the processing of and ensure accurate and timely preparation of accounts payable and receivables including implementing effective monitoring, verification, and coding procedures to ensure accuracy. Coordinate various general accounting functions such as journal entries, account reconciliations and reporting. Assist with preparation of all financial reports, applications, and legal notices in an accurate and timely manner as required by the Board of Trustees, county, state, and federal agencies. provide oversight of financial, project/program and grants accounting; Assist in ensuring that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period. Assist in collating financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants. Assist in coordinating the information requested by independent external auditors for the District's annual audit. Work closely with the Controller and external auditors to ensure timely information sharing and the ability to meet audit and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report deadlines, including appropriate content that qualifies for the COE and COA awards issued by ASBO and GFOA respectively. Stays current on and keeps district abreast of changes in accounting pronouncements, practices and trends along with state and federal regulations which impact financial activities. Actively supports the Billings Public Schools Strategic Plan Other duties as assigned. Supervises other departmental staff. Manages subordinates as outlined in the supervisory duties below. Responsible for accounting and fiscal functions of the department so that adequate and appropriate financial records and controls are maintained. Prepare financial reports ensuring that all information isplete, fairly presented and reported on a timely basis. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization policies and applicable laws. Plans and directs work, ensuring that work schedules are add to and assigning specific duties to subordinate staff. Assists in interviewing, hiring, onboarding and training employees. Conducts staff evaluations, job performance management (including coaching/counseling), and corrective action of subordinates. Demonstrates effective management of a team toward achievement of goals, including appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressingplaints and resolving problems.
