ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly capable and detail-oriented Account Manager to support the Director of Finance in overseeing a complex portfolio of commercial real estate and construction entities. This role will serve as a technical accounting and lead reviewer , responsible for both preparing and reviewing high-risk or complex accounting areas. The Accounting Manager will act as a key buffer between leadership and the accounting team by resolving issues, improving work quality, and ensuring the accuracy of financial outputs - without direct responsibility for managing team workflow at the outset. A significant portion of this role will require a strong understanding of commercial construction and development accounting, as well as working with various real estate investment entities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Accounting & Complex Preparation Prepare and/or review complex journal entries, accruals, reconcilliations, budgets, and accounting analyses Take ownership of high-risk or judgmental areas of accounting Support accounting for construction and development activity within the primary operating entity Perform detailed account analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data Step in to resolve complex accounting issues and provide technical guidance to staff Review & Quality Control Review work prepared by Staff Accountants and Senior Accountant(s) for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards Identify errors, inconsistencies, and process gaps before financials are finalized Serve as the primary escalation point for technical accounting questions and issue resolution Provide feedback and guidance to improve the quality and reliability of team output Financial Close & Reporting Support and help drive monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities Perform final or near-final review of financial statements prior to internal and external distribution Ensure critical deadlines are met, particularly for investor, lender, and regulatory reporting Assist in preparation and review of investor reporting packages Construction & Operating Entity Focus Maintain deep involvement in the accounting for the construction operating entity Review job cost activity, project-related accruals, and cost allocations Ensure accurate integration between construction/project management systems and the general ledger Support financial tracking and reporting for development and construction projects Process Improvement & Systems Support Identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy Assist in developing and standardizing accounting procedures, documentation, and review checklists Support system integrations and data consistency across platforms (e.g., Sage Intacct, RedTeam) Compliance & External Coordination Support audits, tax preparation, and lender reporting requirements Coordinate with external accountants and consultants as needed Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal accounting policies
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 8+ years of progressive accounting experience Strong technical accounting skills, including preparation and review of complex accounting areas Experience working in a multi-entity environment Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve accounting issues independently Preferred CPA license (active or in progress) Public accounting experience Commercial real estate, construction, or property management accounting experience Experience with Sage Intacct, RedTeam, or similar systems
