Accounting Specialist Black Rock Asphalt - 4.0 Albuquerque, NM Job Details Full-time 18 hours ago Qualifications Accounts receivable management Phone communication Full Job Description Accounting Specialist Position Summary Black Rock is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounting Manager / Accounting Specialist to oversee the company's day-to-day financial operations. This role is responsible for managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, tax compliance, financial reporting, and maintaining accurate financial records. The ideal candidate will ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions while providing leadership with reliable financial information to support business decisions. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of the company and supporting operational excellence across all departments. Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable (AP) Process and verify vendor invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports. Ensure timely and accurate payment of all vendor obligations. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies. Maintain organized records of all payable transactions. Monitor cash flow requirements and upcoming payment obligations. Accounts Receivable (AR) Generate and distribute customer invoices. Monitor customer accounts and collections activity. Follow up on overdue accounts and maintain positive customer relationships. Reconcile customer payments and account balances. Prepare AR aging reports and communicate collection concerns to management. Payroll Administration Process weekly payroll accurately and on time. Maintain employee payroll records and ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations. Administer payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits, and tax withholdings. Coordinate payroll reporting and year-end processing, including W-2 preparation. Financial Reporting Prepare monthly financial statements, including: Profit & Loss Statement Balance Sheet Cash Flow Reports Budget vs. Actual Reports Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and other balance sheet accounts. Assist leadership with financial analysis and reporting. Monitor key financial metrics and identify trends requiring attention. Tax Compliance Prepare and file sales tax returns. Coordinate payroll tax filings and compliance requirements. Maintain records for audits and tax preparation. Work with external CPA firms on year-end tax filings and financial reviews. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations. General Accounting Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts. Prepare journal entries and month-end closing procedures. Ensure accurate financial recordkeeping and documentation. Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities. Support annual audits and internal financial reviews. Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Qualifications Education Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and accounting experience may be considered. Experience 3+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management experience preferred. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting required. Experience in construction, mining, manufacturing, asphalt, or related industries preferred. Technical Skills Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar). Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Understanding of GAAP and accounting principles. Experience preparing financial statements and reconciliations. Knowledge of payroll systems and tax reporting requirements. Personal Attributes Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple deadlines. Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Performance Expectations (KPIs) Success in this role may be measured by: Payroll processed accurately and on time. Accounts payable processed within established payment terms. Accounts receivable aging maintained within company targets. Monthly financial statements completed by deadline. Bank and balance sheet reconciliations completed monthly. Tax filings submitted accurately and on time. Reduction in accounting errors and adjustments. Continuous improvement of accounting processes and controls. Physical Requirements Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
