Job Description

Description Robert Half Management Resources is currently looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to for a contract (potential contract to hire) position with a higher education client in Columbus, Ohio. This role will provide key interim support to an accounting department during a period of transition. Role will include standard month-end close functions such as: journal entries (posting and reviewing), reconciliations, A/P, and A/R. This role also coordinates with different departments on budgetary issues, helping managers understand current spending levels and posted transactions. Some GL clean-up and project-related items may also be required. This role is expected to last a few months, and interested candidates may also be a fit long-term (for contract to hire). This role is 100% onsite at the client's location in Columbus, OH.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Record and post journal entries in support of routine accounting activity and period-end reporting.
  • Assist with month-end close by tracking assigned tasks, validating account activity, and helping keep the close process on schedule.
  • Maintain the integrity of general ledger data through careful review, analysis, and documentation of financial transactions.
  • Partner directly with the Controller to support day-to-day accounting priorities and address reporting needs.
  • Use Excel to organize, analyze, and reconcile financial information for ongoing accounting operations.
  • Contribute to accounting work that may involve fund or grant-related transactions in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
  • Work fully onsite in Columbus, Ohio Requirements
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including work in senior-level accounting responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in month-end close processes, general ledger activity, and journal entry preparation.
  • Strong experience performing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills for financial analysis, tracking, and reporting.
  • Ability to work directly with accounting leadership and operate effectively without supervisory responsibility.
  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit accounting is preferred, especially where fund or grant accounting principles are involved.
  • Availability to work onsite in Columbus, Ohio and start on a short timeline is preferred.
