Job DescriptionJob Description A growing, mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee accounting and financial operations for an organization with an annual budget of approximately $3M . This could be a hybrid role and perfect position to make an impact. This is an important leadership role reporting to the Executive Director and partnering closely with program leaders, administrative teams, and the Board to ensure strong financial stewardship, compliance, transparency, and long-term sustainability. The ideal candidate will bring strong nonprofit accounting experience, a collaborative leadership style, and the ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable insight for both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Key Responsibilities The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the organization's day-to-day accounting and financial operations, including: Managing the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, compliance, audits, and tax-related filings Ensuring accounting practices align with GAAP, regulatory requirements, internal policies, and funder guidelines Leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes Preparing monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports for leadership and Board review Analyzing budget-to-actual results and providing clear insight into financial trends, variances, and opportunities Managing grant and program accounting, including expense allocation, reporting, and compliance for government, corporate, and foundation funders Coordinating the annual audit process and serving as the primary point of contact for external auditors Monitoring cash flow and supporting the financial sustainability of programs and operations Partnering with program staff to ensure financial processes support mission-driven work Supporting select HR, payroll, and benefits-related functions Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes, automation, reporting, and scalability Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience Nonprofit, NGO, or grant-funded organization experience strongly preferred Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close processes Experience with grant accounting, funder compliance, and restricted funding reporting Experience managing budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and financial reporting Prior experience coordinating audits and working with external auditors Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Excel, and cloud-based financial/accounting tools such as Bill.com Highly organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and process-oriented Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance audiences Technology-savvy with a continuous improvement mindset High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to mission-driven work Ideal Candidate Profile This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys being both hands-on and strategic. The Accounting Manager will need to manage the details of day-to-day accounting while also helping leadership make informed decisions that support organizational growth and long-term impact.
