OVERVIEW OF POSITION
The Manager, Accounting is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations across HBH's multi-dimensional business — spanning Commercial field services, Retail locations, Manufacturing, and eCommerce — with a focus on execution accuracy, close integrity, and process consistency. This role works closely with the Controller to ensure financial records are complete, reconciliations are current, and internal controls are followed. The Manager, Accounting brings strong GAAP fundamentals and hands-on execution skills to a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. Strategic financial decisions and policy-level determinations are made in alignment with the Controller and senior leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Month-End & Year-End Close Support Execute month-end close tasks including journal entries, accruals, prepaid amortization, and account adjustments Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations across assigned accounts Support year-end close activities and ensure documentation is audit-ready Communicate close status and open items to the Controller Financial Reporting & GAAP Compliance Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers for financial statement review Ensure accounting entries comply with GAAP and company accounting policies Apply core accounting concepts including revenue recognition, accruals, and intercompany eliminations accurately Flag reporting exceptions or unusual items to the Controller for review Accounts & Reconciliation Management Maintain reconciliations for general ledger accounts across multiple entities Identify and resolve variances in a timely manner Support intercompany transaction tracking and elimination entries Ensure accuracy and completeness of assigned balance sheet and P&L accounts Internal Controls & Compliance Follow established internal control procedures for all accounting activities Document accounting processes and maintain organized work files for audit support Identify control gaps and escalate findings to the Controller Support compliance with financial reporting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements Audit Support Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and reconciliations for internal and external audits Respond to auditor inquiries and requests in a timely and organized manner Maintain work paper files that support dual-standard audit engagements Systems & Process Improvement Work within Acumatica ERP and other financial systems to ensure data accuracy and reporting integrity Support process improvement initiatives by identifying manual steps that can be automated or streamlined Leverage available tools and technology to improve workflow efficiency within the accounting function Multi-Entity & Multi-Dimensional Accounting Execute accounting activities across a multi-entity, multi-state operating environment Support segment-level accounting across Commercial field services, Retail, Manufacturing, and eCommerce Assist with cost accounting entries, intercompany allocations, and segment reporting as directed Tax & Compliance Support Assist with documentation and data preparation for federal, state, and local tax filings Support external tax advisors with reconciliations and supporting schedules as needed
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
(KPIS) Month-end close tasks completed on schedule with 0 missed deadlines Balance sheet reconciliation completion rate: 100% monthly Journal entry accuracy rate: 0 material errors per close cycle Audit support requests fulfilled within 48 hours of receipt Internal control compliance rate 98% Open item resolution: assigned variances resolved within 5 business days ERP data integrity: 0 financial reporting failures attributable to assigned accounts
KEY CHALLENGES
Maintaining accuracy and GAAP compliance across a complex, multi-entity, multi-state environment with overlapping close timelines Balancing execution speed with documentation quality during high-volume close periods Navigating accounting complexity across four distinct business models — Commercial, Retail, Manufacturing, and eCommerce — each with different revenue and cost structures Supporting technology adoption and process improvement while managing a high volume of recurring accounting tasks Escalating judgment-sensitive items appropriately while maintaining ownership of execution-level responsibilities
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA candidacy preferred 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience; experience in a multi-entity or multi-state environment strongly preferred Solid command of GAAP and core accounting fundamentals including accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Experience with ERP systems; Acumatica experience a plus Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools Familiarity with process automation or accounting technology tools preferred Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and deadline adherence Effective communicator with the ability to escalate issues and collaborate cross-functionally
